Here’s the soon to be available (from SSM store) Clawcraft by REL.
A very nicely done kit although my copies are not the ones which will be cast by Blappy for SSM. They are preproduction test shots which I received for my contribution of the guns and wing thrusters on the master by REL. I’ve had em for a long while now but since the store should soon have them available I’ll go ahead and build one up to suit myself and thought I’d go ahead and share it.
While browsing Wikipedia I came across a Clawcraft version with an alternate “canopy”. Rather than the flat glass of a standard tie it has dome like glass suspended within two different rings with six stringers from the outer ring to the inner ring. So, scrounging up some “stuff” I set about to duplicate it. Just have those six stringers left to go now. This will simplify painting since once glued together it will be a one piece framework with two pieces of “glass” that can be added into the framing after paint.
Star Ship Modeler (Linda) has said they expect it in their store between one to two weeks now.[;)]
Yeah, it became my new favorite SW fighter after REL shared the pics prior to development with me. Then once he applied “my guns” to it I saw how sleek, unique and bristling with armament it really was and that was it- I was smitten! He did a heckuva job on the master and I think it’s safe to say you’ll be quite pleased when they are available.[t$t]
Meanwhile, mine is primed and moving towards paint!
Going for a look I found online I attempted to emulate what I would describe as the somewhat mottled effect like a squid or octopus has? First a base of silver followed by “splotchy” areas of various shades of black added to the silver in many layers. Then a topcoat of green and blue ink suspended in clear with a “duo blue/green” pearl additive.
I’ll follow this with some detail painting and a panel line wash.
But here it is straight from the booth so far:
Very nice! But as I remember, Chiss painted in standard Imp Greys. Since it was… Parack I believe? That was running thrawn’s hideout. Not to mention he introduced TIE’s to the Chiss… Have to go read, “Spectere of the Past” now! Great kit!
She’s on the bench right now after the wash, a tad bit of weathering and putting on the final bits. The display base might even be dry by then? Photos should be up later this day.[;)]
