Hi all.
Here is a 1/72 Revell and resin Mk 68 Hawker Hunter trainer in the colors of the full size a mate of myne owns and flies.
The build was not to bad, the resin bits took allot of work to get nice, same with the canopy.
Hunbrol enamels. A little post shading to give some fell.The decals (except for the ZU-HUN) were kit decals and really didn’t sit well, even with micro sol

theuns this build looks awesome! i love the paint job, that pattern is sick and the decals are dead on too. i always have trouble with decals haha

Usually I don’t battle with decals to much, just dumb luck I gues LOL

I wish, but at the cost of operating these birds I think the chances are pretty darn slim in the near future

woah. that would be so cool to fly in that. since my dad is in the army i wish i can have a ride in a mrap or atleast sit in it haha. but thats very very slim
Ah yes, the MRAP.
Most of the teck used on the US ARMY MRAP’s are of South African origin. We had to come up with some form of mine protection during the Angolan war as we had nothing at the time and the arms embargo was empozed.

oh cool, thanks for serving. when my dad went to training he was talking about them and how it have the V shape hull so IF a ied went off it wouldnt pen. and everybody could get out and be safe.
modern technology really does help. once i graduate i may go into the army and be a tech and weld on things that need welding.
The idea behind the V hull ( also served as a water tank for the troops) was to deflect the blast enegy to the sides of the APC rather than to try and have a massive thick piece of metal try to take the blast from the bottom. Here in South Africa/Angola our biggest threat was Russian Mines, they would usually stack 2 and even 3 ontop of each other. The Mfezi could take 3 under any of the wheels and you could still get out.
The other big thing the Anglans used ALLOT was PPG-7’s. A guy I know was in an armoured Ambulanse and they took a RPG in the armoured Windshield no more than 3’ from hid headm, he lived to tell the tail!
I believe the US ARMY /MARINES use our locally developed RG-31 series of APC’s in Iraq and Afghan. Here in SA we called them “Mamba” after the deadliest snake in Africa. It has been known to kill even big head of cattle and loads of people!
When I was deployed in the townships during the riots, those RPG’s were my biggest worry!

wow thats scary, yeah RPG’s have always been a big worry from… black hawk down to present day. even in games they are scary. and thanks i got 1 more year of school then off to community college haha

Hopefully by the time you are done with collage you guys will be out of the “areas in dispute” and not have to worry about after joining being sent abroad. But then again as a youngster I couldn’t wait to be posted out to the operational area…LOL

haha, i always wanted to go over seas just once to have the experience and say that i went over and feel what the troops and see in there perspective whats its like. but you maybe right, by the time im done with HS and college they war may be done. who knows lol
One good thing about serving in any of the armed forces is that is teaches dicipline and makes one “grow up” very quicly. ALso it teaches you to take responsapility forones actions.
Here in SA we had mantetory Military service for all white males 18 years old. (untill free elections in 1994) . So when my high school ended in '89 I had 3 choices open to me
1 Go do the years service (with what ever came with it )
2 Dodge the draft, Go overseas and not return
3 Be an “objector” and go to prison for 2-4 years
Naturally with my Dad being an Officer Commanding a Home Guard unit there was only option # 1 open to me LOL!
I did my year’s service in the Air Force as a load master on C-130-160 and then joined permanent for a further 7 years (that is where I became a combat medic)
It was a valuable experience and although I do not want to do it again I am glad that I did

oh wow working on c-130’s thats cool. my choices are 4 year college, community college, and military, which i wanna do 2 of those. my dad has been serving little over 20 years now just as infantry and computer programing stuff, and he is on his 4th deployment and i think he wants to end at 4 cause its alot haha. since im in Colorado 30 miles away from the AFB i have thought about joining and working on planes, helicopters etc. or UAV’s still have many options haha
The way things are going it might not ba a bad idea tobe able to fly UAV’s. I think they are here to stay and the basics will be simple RC planes/helos . Then with the new “computer generqtion” transfering to UAV’s dhould be no problem.
