I’m using the Academy kit, with a little help from Heller.
The PE set came with the Heller kit, but looks much better on the Academy!
Seat and IP from Heller…rudder pedals from a tea can…
I completely did away with the pit “tub”…short and shallow.
I chopped up the wings and scratched the wingfold…pretty simple process. I also added a few small, access panels, that were not on the kit.
Nav. lights are colored/clear plastic…
A brass rod “pin”, disguised as lighting wire will help secure the wing tips.
Spent a lot of time filling some panels that didn’t belong, and scribing panels where they do belong. Many smaller access panels had to be added, as well as a few rivets…
[bnghead] I knew it, you’re going to have one of these built before I even snip my parts from the sprue! Shouldn’t you be out shooting turkeys or something?!?!?
Interesting build. The Etendard is a bit of a forgotten aircraft but I think it is historically significant because of its role in the Falklands war. Good to see one build!
Theres was a long discussion about argentine sue in the GB , others modelers used the humbrol 125… but i have not this colour so i mixed two humbrols to gain an accebtable result. Not 100% sure but probably the 144 medium blue grey with some little percentage of black 33 ,darker areas was drybrushes with 77 dark blue grey as postshading
Manny, I used clear parts glue to build up the padding on the seats…it’s great for adding a bit of texture.
The Heller PE has a nice set of speed brakes included…but the fit is not even close. Even in the open position, they are way wrong for the Academy kit…so, I’m in the process of modifying the Academy parts.
The PE also includes an excellent HUD…which will not fit between the IP coaming and windscreen…so, I notched out a chunk of the coaming and it’s a perfect fit!
Thanx Farmis ,good update there, i have the airfix again in the stash but as you see (same moulds as the heller kit withouth PE parts) general quality is poor respect the academy (that are an original italeri rebox [:S] )
Good picture video ,keep in mind that super etendard used during the conflict was the number 201 to 204, 205 wa used as spare parts, another stock of these planes was stopped from france for the incoming was and was delivered afet the war … lots of things learned during the GB
I believe 202 kicked some butt… I believe it was the one that hit the Atlantic Conveyor…interesting to see these things operating from an Argentine carrier…
coveyor ,sheffield and hit the invincible… but is strange, because the sinking of coveyor was attribuited to the 204… probably both planes hit the ship but final hit was for the 204…
Five Super Étendards, or Sue (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈsu.e]) as they are called, and five Exocets missiles were already shipped to Argentina in November 1981, when a new arms embargo prevented the delivery of further units. More problematic was the fact that the French technicians working at Bahía Blanca on the integration of the Exocet into the Super Etendard received orders to leave the country as well. Nevertheless the Squadron managed to complete the work [5] and, the ARA 25 de Mayo not being modified to allow them operate embarked yet, they were deployed south to the naval air base at Rio Grande, Tierra del Fuego. One aircraft -SUE serial number 3-A-201- was dismantled to be cannibalized for spare parts use while the rest used aerial refuellingfrom KC-130 Hercules tankers of the Argentine Air Force to perform the following missions (Showing aircraft used):
May 2 Cpt Colombo and Lt Machetanz
May 4 Cpt Bedacarratz and Lt Mayora (3-A-202 & 3-A-203) sank HMS Sheffield. Two Exocet fired.
May 15 The retirement of the last of the maritime patrol SP-2H Neptunes due airframe attrition affected the Squadron reconnaissance support.
May 23 Cpt Agotegaray and Lt Mariani did not find targets at the designated location.
May 25 Cpt Currilovic and Lt Barraza (3-A-203 & 3-A-204) sank MV Atlantic Conveyor. Two Exocet fired.
May 30 Cpt Francisco and Lt Collavino (3-A-202 & 3-A-205) joined four Air Force A-4C Skyhawks of Grupo 4 in an attempt to strike the HMS Invincible aircraft carrier. According to British sources, two of the Skyhawks were shot down by Sea Dart missiles from HMS Exeter during the final approach, and the last Exocet available was destroyed by a direct impact ofHMS Avenger frigate 4.5 inch Mark 8 naval gun.
… so, the cannibalized sue was the 201 not the 205 [:$]
