1/72 spitfire?

I work exclusivly in 1/72 scale aircraft and I’ve been looking for along time for a good spitfire in any version can any one help?

Tamiya makes two of them in 72 scale, a Mk1 and a Mk5/5b. Revell Germany did it in72 scale as well. These three are the most modern tools to the best of my knowledge.

Also, Hasegawa makes a very nice Mk IX & Academy makes a decent Mk XIV.

Regards, Rick

Well, I know about Mk IX, from Italeri and Airfix (I don’t recommend the last one), Mk Vb from Italeri, Mk Vc from Revell Germany and Mk IVe from Heller… all in 1/72… maybe you can find all of them in http://www.greatmodels.com

I asked the same thing a week or 2 ago, heres the thread… http://www.finescale.com/fsm/community/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=29227

The Monogram Mk. II fit together pretty well, just as a point. Don’t recall there being the folding entry door though.

I think I might go for the revell germany because I’ve made some pretty good models from their kits before, thanks for the other suggestions they might come in handy if I want to build a different variant.

Hi Stuka_69,

as a 1/72er you might also like SMER’s Spitfire Mk.Vb

scale 1:72
marking: 2
number of pieces: 43
lenght: 12,8 cm
span: 13,6 cm

I did build two so far and it is not a bad kit - and a very cheap one (cca 100 Czech Crowns - 3 Dollars) [:)]

I’d prefer the Italeri one. The Revell Germany one has rather crude cockpit detail, and lacks the ‘gull wing’ central underwing section. On the other hand, it has good decals.

The Italeri one isn’t easy to build, and only has OK cockpit detail if you keep the canopy closed, but the shape’s right, and it’s good value for money.

If money is no object, you could kit-bash the Tamiya fuselage, tailplane and u/c with the wings from the Italeri one - amazingly, the wings on the Tamiya kit are the wrong shape - and add some aftermarket decals - the Italeri decals have colour issues, and the Tamiya decals are too thick.
