Another of Germany’s “Luft 46” subjects, although this one had a prototype that flew.
OOB build, I added a heap of rivet details with a .55mm Rosie the Riveter, brass tube for the gun barrels.
Camouflage is with AK Real Colors, mottling is free handed, also used Mr. Hobby, Tamiya and Vallejo Metal Color Burnt Iron on the engine pipe work. Flory dark dirt wash and Vallejo Matte varnish was final coat. I used Agama Hypersol on the decals which set them down well. The white Balkenkreuz on the wings I masked and painted.
Great fun, I like Special Hobby’s subject matter, the wing span is about 29cm, not bad for 1/72.
According to the Monogram Publications book on the BV-155, three were built. IIRC, the flightworthy V1 was tested and crashed by the Brits, the almost complete V2 mysteriously disappeared after appearing in post war static displays, and the unfinished V3 currently resides at Silver Hill.
If the BV-155B was odd looking, the next-gen BV-155C was even weirder, looking like a distant relative of Boeing’s X-32. Had it been built, it would have consolidated its radiators into an enormous chin fairing, giving it a basking shark-like maw.
One has to wonder how such an ungainly fighter would have fared against high altitude bombers.
Still, I’m a fan of Richard Vogt and his wacky designs! Great job and thanks for posting! [Y]
