First post and hope many more to come. Just completed another 1/72 dio I’m really enjoying as it’s a break from 1/35 and also heaps more room.
The Schwerer is scratch built I went out and got myself a HO railway track and some HO train wheels. The whole thing was made from cardboard, balsa wood and plasticard with bits and pieces from the bits box.
The Panther G is from DML and built straight from the box and the Kubelwagen is from teh old airfin recon set. The figures are from AB Miniatures and the drums and crates what you can see of them are from Academy.

I’ve been considering the venture into 1/72 for my dios - again due to size.
I really like 1/35 though and wondered if the smaller kits would satisfy me as well as the larger ones? I’m not really sold on 1/72 figures due to the lack of variety and restrictions on detail.
I was in the same boat did’nt like any 1/72 till I went to the hobby shop and found the DML kits they are very well detailed and easy to build. Revell have also got some great looking kits out now so the variety is getting better.
With figures i’ve found that AB miniatures have a great range including US, Brits and Germans and the detail is extremly good or you good try Prieser they make a whole range of figures and most of them are multi pose figures as well.
As for accessories I use HO rail stuff have’nt seen any weapons sets from any companies as of yet but I could be wrong. But I recommend giving it a go and you save heaps on room which like me I need evry bit of space I can get.
Hi Ron, [#welcome] to the forum and thanks for posting your pics. I build almost exclusively in 1/72 and your dio has given me lots of inspiration. Did you have to modify the HO rail car at all to make it look realistic with the 1/72 vehicles or is it straight out of the box?
the rail car as been built from scratch the only I did’nt make were the wheels. I built up the frame work and then added the sides and then the balsa wood for the floor then the bits and pices to it , I then added the wheels .
After I let it dry for 2 days I then sprayed it german grey and then dry brushed it various colours.
I also build exclusively in 1/72 scale Armor. I’m trying to build a diorama base that can also be used as a Photo base to photograph my Armr on, much like Matrixone does with his aircraft dios on the airfirld. (I also want an airfield dio/photo base like that too.)

Hi jaysun- the camo uniforms are very easy this is just an ex-sample.
step 1- paint the figures uniform a base colour such as dark green.
step 2- get a fine brush and paint small un-even patches of dark brown and tan colour make sure to over lap on some of the patches.
step3 - with the 3 colours you have used add small dots to the patches till you get the desired affect.
step 4- give the uniform a slight drybrush of 2 part mix of flat tan and flat white this will highlight the camo pattern even more.
Wow thats some great work especially for 1/72. The detail is really good. I was never that great with 1/72 I found it to be too small to work with and I know its kinda late in saying this but…[#welcome]
