Another great little 1/72 scale model, and one of my favorite aircraft of WWII.
A buddy of mine had mentioned this as being a fantastic kit, I had never heard of them before, but again, came across one at a show and was very impressed. Excellent detail, and easily a scaled down version of the Accurate Miniatures kit. I will say this, it is a very fiddly model. Lots of tiny pieces that can, will break if not handles with care…don’t ask how I know this.
Paint is custom mixed Tamiya Acrylics. Decals are a combination of the kit’s and Yellow Wings Decals Roundels. The roundels in the kit are undersized for the wings. Midway SBD’s had a variety of oversized markings so I fudged it as best I could, based on photographs I have.
Markings are for B-13, an aircraft from Bombing Eight, (VB-8) flown from USS Hornet, (CV-8) during the Battle of Midway, 4 June, 1942. She was crewed by Ens. James A. Riner and Floyd A. Kilmer, ARM1c.
Model is a very straight forward build and I had very little seam work at all, (I hate seam work) and she is built as she is, straight from the box. Excellent model and I highly recommend it. I saw it again at another show from a vendor, and I bought another one of these and the -2 kit. Like I said, great kit, lots of fun building, (Some cussing) and very pleased with the outcome.
