1/72 scale .50 Cal machine gun

Hi, all!

Can you tell me where I could find 1/72 scale .50 Cal machine guns? I need four of them.

I need them as replacement parts for the poor quality parts found in the Revell PT 117/109 model kit, but this must be the right place for this post.

Actually, if you do a product search on an online site like http://www.squadron.com search for aircraft accessories. Verlinden and other resin companies make replacement bomber machine guns (for waist guns and turrets). They are normally sold in groups of four or more (one pack will outfit a B-17 or something like that).

Check out a UK company called MMS they have pintle mounted 50 & 303 calibre mgs with assorted magazines and ammo boxes cast in white metal.

You’ll have to be sure they have the air cooled jacket for the length of the barrel. A quick search at both Squadron and Greatmodels showed nothing. You may need to scavenge them from a model airplane.

I know Verlinden did a set with four waist guns, but they must be OOP.

I know where I can find the Aires models, I think I’ll buy them.

I have a PE set by White Ensign Models, with air cooled jackets, unfortunately instructions ask you to to adjust them to the parts found in the box. Sorry, but the Revell parts for the .50 are so incorrect, I do not use them. With so small models, it would have been better to have a good resin or metal shape to put the PE parts on.

There probably isn’t a modeler in his 40s who hasn’t built the Revell JFK PT-109 kit. It was the coolest 1/72 scale kit without wings.

Well, finally, I could do it with White Ensign Models PE parts and the Revell parts. I had to find very fine wire, as a base for the barrel :

I just got a couple of their single .30 cals, and they’re excellent.

Holey dead post revival!! The post was from 2006. I am sure he has found them or given up on it by now. Maybe look at the dates before responding to old posts.

Bad idea. A forum post isn’t one-to-one it’s one-to-many. Odds are he’s not the only one with this particular problem.

Maybe if he looked at the dates other people building the same kit (me for example) wouldn’t have found out about the Miniworld machine guns. Instead, because he didn’t, I’m going to give them a try for my PT-105…
