I would appreciate some hints from F-4 Phantoms fans: Hasegawa has been issueing in the last months some 1/72 Phantom kits (examples: item nr. 00796 F-4B “VF-14 Top Hatters” and F-4C/D “Mig Eater”). Is anyone aware if these are NEW moulds or just a re-issue of their older (even if still pretty good) kits with new decals? In the former case, any feeedback on quality of these kits? I’ve planned to build a nice Phantom for years and I would really like to pick-up the right kit [:)]. Thanks so much for any input, and ciao from Italy!
Hi, In my opnion, the Hasegara 1/72 phantom kit are the best going. I use Hasegarw exclusively for 1/72 phantons and F-18 hornets. All of the sevsral kits thatI have had fit and went together very well, with no problems. Even there cheap $ 8.95 F-18 c chippy hoe went together with no prblems.

I happen to have 3 Hasegawa phantoms. 1 of them is a really, really old mold, with raised panel lines. The other two I haven’t started yet, and they look like the best molds I’ve ever seen. I can’t wait to get started on them. My only dissappointment is that I can’t fold the wings up on the navy version. Neverless, I think the two (newer) phantom models might just be the best models in my stash.

Massimo:
The Hasegawa 1/72 Phantoms really are the best in town. However, they are NOT the easiest to build! I have had trouble with the first two that I have started. It is a challenge to get everything lined up correctly when completing the cockpit/front fuselage section and having this join to the real fuselage. I ended up with an ugly step in both cases due to the multiple parts not being in correct alignment. This is not as easy at it might appear in the instructions. Go slowly and double check everything.I beleive that Hasegawa made this too complex in order to be able to get almost all of the Phantom versions from the main molds.
With that being said, I am about to start my third 1/72 Hasegawa Phantom, a F-4EJkai in a Japanese 50th anniversary commemorative scheme. I plan on trying a different aproach to getting the front end aligned.
Have fun modeling a Phantom!
