Here is the Hasegawa 1/72 P-3. Built OOB it was a fun build for an older hasegawa kit. I would have gotten more pics, but the weather outside had different plans.
Wow! You did a fantastic job on this build! This looks excellent.
Toshi
Thanks Toshi !
Not one we see often, really nice job on it. Its a nice looking aircraft.
Nice p-3
Thanks Bish and sea stallion
B-One,
Nice, I like the subtle color differences you put into the grey. If you don’t mind me asking - could you explain your technique ?
Chris
Thanks Boss man,
I used the black basing technique. Basically I prime in all black then slowly start to fill in the color with the lightened base color using a random pattern allowing some.of the black to peek through subtley in random spots. It helps break up the monotone grey color.
Nicely done. Those old Hasegawa kits are tough builds, lots of fit problems and odd part designs.
Hello!
A very nice lookin’ Orion! That’s right - we don’t see the models of them often enough. I always wondered how hard would it be to backdate one of them to the Vietnam-Era P-3A version.
Thans for sharing and good luck with your modeling projects - have a nice day

Great job! Had to get on a bigger screen To enjoy the pictures even more. Thanks for posting. gk
Thanks everyone for the kind words. You guys are right about not really seeing the p-3 here much.
Bac about 10 years ago I was TDY at the Marine base in Hawii and there were numerous P-3s from the U.S. , Austrailia, Japan, and I think New Zealand. Seeing a gathering of P-3s lines up in different markings was quite a sight. Seeing them take off one after theother was a lifetime memory. Your model is a great looking bird and not as colorful as the older paint schemes, but well done.
The P-3 was a development of the Lockheed Electra of the 1950s and one of the first “turbo-prop” airliners along with the British Viscount (IIRC). Other than the old Revell “box-scale” Electra does anyone know of a 1/72nd Commercial version of the Electra.
Again, great job.
and u think Orion’s are hard to find?
no Electra in plastic 1/72.
I grew up under the landing pattern at Moffett NAS, love the P-3.
so did I. I was born and raised in Mountain View. Remember when a P-3 crashed on the golf course?. Killed the whole crew except for one survivor.
nice
Well done! I’ve been wanting to build another P-3 Orion for years since I dropped mine back in the day. It’s still hard to talk about what and how it happened. LOL! This time I want to do one from Pax River NAS.
Decals out of the box, too? Which issue?
Yup the decals are out of the box too. I have to go back and look at the kit number
Lovely build. Did you restore any of the sanded panel lines? I currently have 2 P-3 builds on the bench. Hope they end up as nice as yours. Also have a boxing with these markings which I build one day.
