1/72 Jet Engine Question

Well as often happens work has taken over where fun should be so major construction of the dio has been put on hold for a while. So for the next year I am resigned to working on bits and pieces I can have sent through the mail. Unfortunately it has also given my imagination more to work with so now I am bound and determined to expand this idea into true insanity. I have decided that given the fact I have pleanty of time I am going to make the base more than just a hangar. I am going to make it a full on bunker built into a hill with AA positions and tunnels, I have already started to design what I want it to look like and how to work the cut-aways. I will post some preliminary drawings on here when I get a chance. In the mean time I am anxiously awaiting the delivery of my first box of goodies.

And the rest of us are anxiously awaiting your pictures. Ahhh work, it spoils everything doesn’t it!!![:'(]

Here are the first shots. I did the basic design with google sketch-up and then began on some of the auxillary vehicles. This will wind up being a huge project. I may wind up cutting it down a bit from the concept just due to that. Given the scope of the project I have already decided to cut out any super detailing and letting the size of it speak for itself. But here is my vision, let me know what you guys think!!

The whole side will be a cutaway to show off the interior.

I planned the top to look like a forrested hillside with some redoubts built in, I;m thinking 88s in the gun emplacements.

The back will be mostly some tunnels built into the sides with a stairwell going up to the redoubts above.

I have made a little progress on the vehicles now. The first Opel fuel truck WIP, it is the fuel truck from the Academy “1/72 German Fuel Truck & Schwimmwagen” kit. I bought two of these plus a Roden opel cargo truck which I will post as I get them done.

And the first part done. Like the saying goes “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”

Dude, this is going to be EPIC!!! so cant wait to see more. I did have a thought that if u want some of the workload taken off you can ask others to help out (with stuff that can be posted safely) Id be willing to help out.

Sorry for the delayed response and thanks for the offer. I am stuck for the next 10 months or so in Afghanistan so I figured it is the perfect time for me to work on the smaller pieces as it gives me something to fill my time with. When I get home I am going to start laying the groundwork for the base and figure out how to fit it through a doorway… [:D]

Lol good luck on your deployment. Looking forward to seeing your progress when you come back.
