Long story short I just got this kit and I have a problem I have never encountered before. It seems the canopy is in two halves. I have never seen this before and have no idea how to deal with it. How can i assemble this so that there is no visible seam between the two halves?

Sounds like a similar problem with the 1/48 Hornet. It seams to be molded in two halves and there is a distinctive seam.
Is the seam on a frame line? If it’s not, then there’s not much you can do. Maybe there’s a vac canopy out there. Squadron does a whole mess of canopies.

The other thing that I am going to pursue with my Hornets is the Squadron sheet styrene you heat and then form over the plastic. Try that maybee you can get a good result. I am going to do that with both my Hornets. Good Luck
Stram, one other thing. I put a post up months ago and never got a response. I have several Hasegawa 1/48 kits. All their 1/48 kits have the weapons charts in them. I have the A-6 from Monogram. The good news is that the seam is on the canopy frame line.
Careful use of Crystal Clear/Elmers, a light sanding/polish and a coat of Future should see you through!

I built a 1/72 Hasegwa A-6A many years ago and it had the two piece main canopy. If I remember right there is a frame member along the seam that would hide the glue joint.

My method that I used is make sure your two half canopies are aligned as carefully as deemed possible. They don’t align very well but with a little thought process it can be done, make sure you mask both inside and out of the canopy. Leave the outside center section exposed so Contacta glue can be used, you don’t want to use thin glue because it will run underneath the masking tape. Let the glue cure properly and use Tamiya filler or any other similar filler and let cure (use small clips to hold canopy aligned). This type of canopy can cause a lot of frustration, believe me, I almost thru out the model. When filler is cured, sand carefully with wet and dry sand paper, take your time. You should get a reasonable appearance of the seam. GOOD LUCK…
