1/72 corsair

I have three Corsair kits on my shelf. 2 MPC and the Revell Germany. I want a decent looking Corsair, not involve alot of time. I need suggestions. Resin, PE are options I want to do, but do I use the Revell or try to make-over the MPC’s. I have a mid-May deadline.

Could you do the Hasegawa/ Tamiya kit instead??? I would go for the Revell kit myself.
Heard too too many bad things on the MPC kit. Is it going to be a three footer??. If it is not going to be too close to the public eye,go for the MPC. Save the best for your self. Flaps up Mike

Some things I’d suggest for a better 1/72 Corsair:

  • get a vac form canopy. This makes a BIG difference to the overall product. Much more of a scale thickness and clarity. I got one from www.squadron.com (very inexpensive)
  • you can probably get resin and pe parts to make it more detailed, but in 1/72 they won’t be as noticeable. Flaps would be a nice touch though…

A bit of a tricky question for me. I haven’t seen much from Revell Germany that I didn’t like.

As for MPC, Well, if the Airfix Corsair I built about ten years ago is simply a reissuing of your MPC kits (I know some of Airfix’s 1/72 line is MPC originated) then I would say a May deadline is really pushing your luck. If The Airfix and MPC corsairs are one in the same, they can be made to look very respectable, but it takes a LOT of time to get it right.

As for the Revell Germany kit, is it a fairly new mold or might it be a reissue of an old Matchbox kit? I know Revell Germany does possess a good amount of old Matchbox molds. Either way, I’d say go with that kit if you’ve got a tight deadline. The fit and out line should be significantly better regardless if its a new molding or a reissued Matchbox.

Hope that helps

I got the True Details cockpit and Squadron canopy locally, less than 7 bucks. The Revell does look better that the MPC’s. I was thinking of just cutting the flaps and using them, some wire to look like hydraulic lines. What about the wheel wells? This will be part of a Diorama, is there resin wells available or PE time?

The old Heller kit (which can still be found on EBay and some online hobby retailers) isn’t horrible and can be built VERY quickly. The detailing can be as much or as little as one would like, depending on taste. I put this one (http://www.classicplasticmodels.com/corsair.1.jpg)together over a weekend, beginning Friday evening after returning from work, and finishing SUnday evening. Good Luck in your search!

I know this post is over 10 years old now, but just wondering - how did the Corsair come out?
