Since I can’t go wrong with either Hasegawa or Tamiya, who makes the better F4U Corsair in 1/72? Variant does not matter.

I would go for the Tamiya Corsair b/c it’s a very well detailed kit. U basically add some glue and paint into the box and shack it up…TADA, a built F4U. The panels are engraved nicley too. Everything fits with reeally no head aches to encounter. Bacically its a quater scale shrunk down.
Never really saw a built up one by Hasegawa in 72 scale. From what I remember, I thought it had raised panel lines like the earlier 1/48th scale Corsair had (New 1/48th F4u is engraved). I’m not too sure on that one I may be wrong. If you can go onto Hasegawa’s web site, see if you can tell by the pics or look at their catalog at your local hbby shop.
Like you said both kits are good. I heard soo much about how “sweet” the Tamiya built looks. Kinda makes me want to do 1/72. Hopefully this will help but then again you have to be happy in what your building. Good luck. Flaps up, Mike
I’m in the middle of putting together the Hasegawa 1/72 F4U and I think it’s pretty good. It has recessed panel lines and so far has gone together quite well. I didn’t like the canopy, so I got a vac-form one from www.squadron.com. I’ve never seen or built the Tamiya version, so it’s tough for me to compare…

I also have the Hasegawa F4U-1. It’s a nice kit and you can get a good after market cockpit that fits like a glove.
If you want the most accurate, best looking out of the box kit…go with the Tamiya Corsair. The cockpit and engine detail are quite a bit better than Hasegawa’s. Having said that, I am not planning on getting rid of the two remaining Hasegawa Corsair kits I still have not built. Drop in a resin cockpit and engine and the Hasegawa Corsair looks great. In the end, you are right…you really can’t go wrong!

Those are the two areas of my kit that I wish were better (Hasegawa). I’m quite happy with the kit, but next time I’ll pick up the Tamiya and give it a whirl…

If Variant doesn’t matter , I would rate available F4U Corsair kits as Tamiya (BEST), Italeri (Second), and Hasegawa (Third). I’ve built at least two of each, and the Tamiya kit is the superior build. However for the early birdcage version Hasegawa is the best bet. At least until Tamyia releases their scaled down 1/48 version.
