Forgive my ignorance but I strictly build WWII so I do not know alot the beast. A freind has asked me to build one for him. Unfortunately I have no idea which kit would suit my needs. I would like to build a Vietnam era Stratofortress. If anyone could direct me as to the best kit and the correct variant it would be greatly appreciated.
There is only one B-52D in 1/72. It is the Monogram, now Revell and has also been released by Revell of Germany. The Monogram version has been re-released several times with different box art, but they are all the same kit.
It is a pretty decent kit overall, a little sparse on the detail for the landing gear and practically none in cockpit, which you can’t see anyway. The bomb bay doors open to reveal a fake bottom with the lower portion of some Mk-117 750 pound bombs. The underwing pylons with 12 Mk-117s on each are fairly well done. You have the option of building the #1 engine pod with the cover open and displaying the J-57 engine.
Thank you there Yardbird. I was pretty sure that was the one for me but I just wanted some input since this is not my area of experties. The kit is going to be hung from the ceiling wheels up so wheel well detail is not a problem. I am not trying to build a museam piece just a nice looking Stratofortress for a freind. Thanks agian.
the Buff’s that where flown in Vietnam War where the B-52D’s (SAC camo scheme), B-52F’s (BMF on top and Gloss Black Belly’s) and for a short while B-52G’s, check out this site
