How about the new Revell kits. I dont understand why they have done them in 1/76.
The Hasegawa Leopold and Karl look good also.
Ive nearly finished my Hasegawa Tiger, which i basically re built. New gun, hatches , tools, engine, grills ( i basically sanded off all the molded on detail). I’ll probably paint it in Eastern front markings, sand base with a top coat of white.
What are you guys working on at the moment?
Revell kits are summed up by 1 word: nice
I’m working on a few different 1/72 scale 1/35 kits in my assembly line:
- PST Topaz (amphibious modern troop carrier) a.k.a. 50PK
- Hasegawa Panther G (regular wheels) with add on milliput zim as an experiment
1/35:
- M151A2 jeep for a veterans society
- T-38 amphibious tank by Cooperativa (nasty little demon of a kit)
- Tamiya Panzer IVD. This is like a right-of-passage kit for people in my club. We all build it at some point.
Not only Dragon keep offering metal hull but their range is very much ‘been there, done that, bought the t-shirt’ if you know what I mean… I’ve seen today the releases for 2005 in the Trumpeter range and they at least are offering some very unusual subjects along with the mainstream stuff. Top of my list in 2005, is the S-Tank in 1/72…! I love Trumpeter! I’ve only completed one of their kits, the Zil-157 (which I heavily modified) but it was a great little kit, and it’s a fantastic base for many other subjects. I have bought a few of the Dragon kits and I’ve been rather disappointed… However some parts are very good and I’ll certainly use bits of their M1 to complete my Revell/Matchbox kt someday!
Regarding the Dragon Tracks:
I had some success with the hot water idea. I soaked them in pretty hot water for about three minutes, and then stretched them by hand. As suspect, they started to thin out in the middle a bit, but I was able to gain some length, maybe three links worth. This in, and of itself, didn’t solve the sag problem, but it did give me enought extra lengh that I could glue the top down onto the roadwheels. Certainly not ideal, but better than the rubber band look. One issue is that I was sure the paint would not survive the ordeal so I will be faced with painting the tracks on the tank - will be tricky for the top. So, for what it is worth, there’s one option that worked for me, but again it wouldn’t due if you needed to create much more length since I’m pretty sure I had stretched them close to the breaking point.
You were lucky yukonrob, a fellow modeler tried the method aswell to no success, the tracks snaped!!.
Ive nearly finished my Tiger. Although now i think i’ll paint it Dark Grey with a mix of black, white and brown. I used metal mesh for the grills and aluminium from cans for the sideskirts. (Post pics soon)
Are the Hasegawa kits with PE the vintage kits or totally new molds?, on the subject gderue, are you planning to add some scratchbuilt details on your Hasegawa Panther G?
