What’s the best MiG-15 kits in 1/72 and 1/48 scales? Preferably the bis variation.

I read someting about the mistake on the Tamiya kit on the swept angle. How bad is it?

Well I have not built the Tamiya kit, But if you want a cheap kit in 1/48 with decent detail, that with only a little efort can compeat with the Tamiya kit, the Monogram 1/48 Mig-15 Bis, is the way to go. I just got done building one and I was quite happy with the results. Its runs at about 5 bucks and can be found at almost any swap meet for about that price. Weather you choose to go with a Monogram or Tamiya kit, good luck with you.

I built 2 Tamiyas one was the “limited chrome” the other a regular kit, both were excellent, the wing angle as far as I know is correct, what you have to be carefull with is the position of the flaps because of the slipper tanks on the wings, so…do plenty of dry fitting before gluing. It’s the best MiG 15 bis in my opinion (TAMIYA). I haven’t built ACADEMY’S. If you can find it for 5.00 bucks anywhere buy it! Depending where you buy it 20.00 to 25.00. Excellent, I highly recommend it.

I built the Tamiya 1/48 Mig 15. Like other Tamiya kits it almost built itself and it was a lot of fun. Well worth the money.

The Tamiya 1/48 kit is excellent. There is also a newer 1/48 release from Trumpeter which should be very good, although I haven’t built one. In 1/72 the best kit is probably the DML/Dragon release.

[#ditto] The Tamiya kit is well worth the money. I’m not sure about Maryland, but here in the midwest I see them all the time at Hobby Lobby for about $15-20.

The 1/72 kit by KP is I think the best in shape but it’s a fairly old kit and still has raised panel lines. If you do not mind this extra work, plus a bit of furnishing of the front office, it’s the most accurate one. They also have the two-seater variant.

Thanks guys. I think I will go with Tamiya and wait for someone comes out with a deccent 1/72 kit.

The Tamiya is certainly worth the money.

I saw a Dragon 1/72 MiG-15 in the box once and all I remember is it had terribly overdone sunken rivet detail that kept me from buying it.

You’re right. I was very dissapointed with the Dragon 1/72 kit . The kit is beautiful and it captures the look of the Mig 15 so well, but those rivets… the kit is basicly useless…[:(!][^]
