Firstime forumer here. I have a 1/72 scale Airfix Fairey Swordfish. I have ordered a resin Pegasus engine for this kit and thought that since i am going to the trouble of putting a nice mill up front i will need a nice interior to go with it. That is where my dillemma is. Does anybody know where I can get an interior detail set for this kit or one that can be modyfied to fit. I am not beyond creating a reasonable facsimile by scrqatchbuilding if i HAVE to.
The swordfish is an acient kit that I built back when I was in school. I don’t think that there’s a detail set for it but you could try Meteor Productions or maybe Eduard. Good luck.
I believe Eduard still has a Swordfish interior in its range. I think it is intended for the Matchbox/Revell kit, but shouldn’t be too difficult to stick into the Airfix one.
The Airfix Swordfish kit is now very elderly ,if you can get one the Matchbox / Revell kit is much finer .The cheapest way of getting an interior is if you can get hold of the equally old Frog kit ,reissued by Novo, which does have for its time a reasonable cockpit.Don’t however spend a lot of money, these are old kits. The Matchbox offering has a long range tank installed in the rear cockpit, which would need sugery to remove it.
Heyyyyy still going on my airfix swordfish, recently purchased the revell 1/72 swordfish as well. The revell kit has its pros and cons compared to the older airfix kit that at least has a cockpit facscimile. with the purchase i did score a much much better detailed engine and excellent decals. i am now planning to kitbash and get a decent looking sowrdfish from the two kits. will keep you posted. Still no luck on a PE set for it though!!!
Heyyyyyyy peoples!!! I have a PE kit specifically for the Airfix kit and have purchased it from Hannants in the UK. It was originally produced by Airwaves but from what I gather Hannants has bought them out or summit and have re-released alot of their offerings under the Hannants name. The kit is excellent and has helped a great deal in making an otherwise humdrum OLD Airfix kit into a nice lil model. It was rather frustrating to find out that this PE kit was available AFTER I had already started!!! I did manage to gingerly take the kit seats out and fold up the brass ones and put them in with the etched seatbelts. Got the rigging done as well! No wonder they called it the ‘Stringbag’ Geez!! Not done yet but getting to the latter stages. Have to Dullcote now and complete the detailing and final assembly. Search the Hannants website!!! You will be amazed at the stuff they have in stock!!!
By the way, can some one please tell me how to put photos in here!!!
First, REMEBER where you saved your photos. From My Computer all the way up to the actual image.
You’ll need some type of photo-hosting web site. I use www.photobucket.com. It’s free, and so far I have 444 photos on it with no issues.
Once there, look at the tab that says “Upload Photos”.
Click on the “Browse” tab.
This is where step 1 comes in handy. Find your photos by navigating folders. When you do, highlight it and click “open”
It should shoot back to the website. Click the “Upload” button.
Wait for the website to do its magic. Once you’re back on the homepage, look at the four lines of codes/address under each photo. Find the one that says IMAGE. It will have tags [ IMG][/ IMG] on each end of the address.
Copy and paste into a post, and there you go!
Sort of a pain getting started, but once you do it a while, it’s not so hard. Good luck on the Swordfish, and if you have any questions, let me (or anyone else) know.
Here’s a couple pics of the Stringbag I have on the bench at the moment. The legs and tail wheel are on now so will have another pic up soon. First time posting photos so hope this works. I know I shoulda hada oughta put a hardline camo but was anxious to practice airbrushing and am just having fun building again, so any nitpickersout there please save it for the final result please. We are our own worst critics I think anyways. FUN is the name of the game, if its not fun then take up basketweaving lol.
as an exercise in freehand airbrushing, that’s not at all bad. So what if it should really have been hard-edged? That can come later. Do what you enjoy. It doesn’t have to be realistic to the n’th degree - may I present to you the Royal Navy’s latest aircraft carrier:
Thanks for the links Matt, but in a previous post I mentioned that I had purchased that PE kit. I also found another one from a different company. It has more stuff than the Airwaves one does. It was a fluke I found it, and promptly ordered one. Can’t remember the company that produces it. It has details for the torpedo as well, as the Airwaves one does not. Thanks for the info again, just a bit late.
The other PE set I bought is from http://www.moduni.com/ . The manufacturer is ACE. Moduni part# is 6078719. Just had a look at it again, and it even has the torpedo aiming bars. I will be very happy to get this kit when it arrives. Just wish I could have had it when I started.[sigh]
