Finished it today, and couldn’t be more pleased. Loved the kit, wonderful fit and detail for this scale. Decals are from Eagle Strike, for an aircraft of the 51st FG, Kunming China 1944 (which explains the teeth). Only changes are a stick I made from a pin to replace the one I broke, and masking tape seat belts. Box stock otherwise. Paint is Tamiya gloss aluminum rattlecan. This is my first airplane in 20 years. Had a great time, re-learned a lot, looking forward to more and greater challenges. Constructive criticism welcome! Oh, one question - is there a clear flat available in a rattlecan I can buy to finish it off? Something that will go over the enamels and decals with no problem, and not cloud the canopy?
Good job and welcome back. Not much to add, maybe little work on panel lines since is all aluminum. I’m not sure about clear flat in rattlecan. If you find it I will recomend to cover canopy when you spray it.
A twenty-plus-year-old bottle of super Microset. I have no idea if that stuff is even effective anymore, but the decal was a very good quality, and I worked it over with several coatings of the stuff. There were a few gaps at the end of the process, and amazingly enough, Testors gloss red enamel was a perfect color match to fill the gaps. Thanks for the compliment.
Testors Model Master has a clear flat lacquer that you should be able to find easily. It’s dead flat. Mask your clear parts and spray it in light dusting coats until you get the result you want. The stuff is very powerful so ventilate well and use the light coats or you may melt something.
Great looking build Dan [tup][tup] Those newer academy kits are a real treat - especially if you don’t use the kit decals as you did [;)] Thanks for the look.
