1/72 A Model Yak-28I як-28и headache WIP

Always wanted a Yak-28, managed to get one off of ebay, and yet another a few days after that.

Researching the development of Cold War Soviet airpower got me into all things silver with red stars on em.

I prefer Hasegawa and Italeri grade models for ease of building. This A Model plane just about reaffirmed that 100%. I had to finish it, like a runner pushes to the last line of a triathlon, just keeeeep going, it will be over soon.[:XX]

The fit is ok to poor on many parts, seams are thin or incomplete (panel lines). The instructions are a bit vague and the fit of the parts into other parts is poor. I had to do a lot of chiseling of plastic/surgery to get things to go. A LOT of liquid welding cement to melt seams together. A LOT of clay to support parts that are supposed to magically line up somehow. Hours wise, this model took a LOT of time and a lot of nerves. It is almost done, just waiting a few small parts, a paint then the canopies. The remaining Yak-28 model will probably never get built, unless I want to lose more hair.

After this, I switched to the HOBBYBOSS Mig-15 1/72 easy build kit…ahhhh it was like jumping into a jacuzzi after a cold day. The crisp perfect moldings and immaculate detail made the rest of the week better. I am sane again and will not attempt another A Model build. [:S]

-Remy

[:S]

-Lots of sprues, with NO numbers on the parts, slowed down the build time. Many parts are hard to get off intact.

-Bomb Bay bulkheads do not fit in the aircraft, had to be trimmed down excessively

(did the person who made the mold, even TRY to build this thing?)

-A shot of the Bomb Bay, that will not fit in the fuselage if you build it per instructions.

-clay to get parts to line up and stick to fuselage with correct alignment.

90% done, LOTS of Tamiya putty.

LOL! great ! i found another mad that start a yak-28 from amodel [Y]

i started the R version to avoid metal finish… Keep on this beautyfull plane!

how resolved the cones on intakes front ?

Welcome to the world of limited-run kits. I have built many A-model kits, and once the parts are cleaned up, test fitted, and adjusted, the fit can be made pretty decent. I will admit they take more skill than Hasegawa or Italeri (since you mentioned them), but I wouldn’t put off A-Model kits because they need a little work. A-Model makes a lot of subjects that are otherwise unavailable.

i see a foxbat on background, is the hasegawa kit?

True Bronto, I would consider it a PRO kit for PRO builders. Not a kid, thats for sure. I consider myself pretty good at modelling and still almost jumped out of my 1 story house window.

The Mig-25 is the Hasegawa, its an old kit with old decals. I plan to make Custom Bulgarian 1980s decals for it. I am thinking to buy the ICM Mig-25, not sure.

For the YAK-28 intakes, I had to cut down a LOT of plastic on the intake cones inside, then position them with superglue. Its ugly, this is not a contest winner. I just wanted to finish it. The next challenge is a good metal finish and weathering.

I also had to keep a low wing dihedral, as if the plane was on the ground. When I modeled it flying. so it has incorrect drooping wings, but like I said, I was running out of enthusiasm real fast on this one.

build one in early 90 . My first hasegawa was not a good encounter [:D]

I’ll try to finish my yak 28 (wip in this section) but planned to scratch lots of thing inside. just done a test fit to check overall shapes, another italian modeller had lots of problems with wings

Yeah limited run kits are fun -heheheheheh. Still it’s the only way to get some wild off-the-wall subjects. Everytime I build a limited run kit I swear I’ll never build another but end up coming back to tackle another one.

Looks like you’ve done a good job on her so far. If you get stressed out put it back in the box, build something simple and come back to her.

The Yak-28 was a cool looking a/c and when you get her finished please post the photos - I’d like to see how she comes out.

Looks good to me. Looking forward to more photos. [Y][:D]

So how is this one progressing?.

this guy, and all other models are on hold. Actually packing them up for a household move. A bit earlier than I planned. Looking to join USAF ANG units all over so we have no idea where we will end up.

I think it may be a few months before they even get unpacked again [:S]
