1/700 Type 99 Val????

Ok, so I have a 1/700 Junyo I am in the process of building. It came with a sprue of 16 aircraft obviously. The problem is that it appears none of the aircraft on the sprue appear to be the Type 99 Val (even though the instructions list the Val in their profile on how to do the folded wings for stowage). If it IS on there the wing profile is all wrong. I can identify the Kate, Zero, Judy, Jill and a couple I think are Ki 61’s. No Val’s. Is there ANYONE who makes a 1/700 Val?

A quick look at my refs indicate that the ship carried only Zeros and Kates…

Tamiya makes a set, item 31511 that includes Vals.

Thanks Stik, that should do the trick just right. I did not know Tamiya simply sold 1/700 sets like that. Good to know!

Manny, you could be right. I spent about 1/2 hour on the net trying to find exactly what aircraft types Junyo carried with little success.

I used to build 1/700 and 1/720 ships when I was in high school many moons ago. Most carrier kits did not come with enough panes to suit me ( they dont look right unless half the deck is covered) so I found those sets from Tamiya and other companies to fill them up. Somebody else does USN and RN/FAA birds, or used to anyways.

Heh heh, I agree Stik, a handfull of planes just does not cut it. I am actually going to use what I can to make molds for resin casting, so a a dozen planes will turn into whole carrier air wings [:D]

Trumpeter makes a LOT of 1/700 airplane sets - but none of the Japanese airplanes, to my knowledge. Which I suspect is more a case of history coloring their thinking than anything.

Heh heh, yeah I was wondering why the obvious lack…and then I realized it was a China based company. So then I understood why they may not be so keen to make Japanese aircraft (heck, I don’t even think I have ever seen them make a Japanese ship kit of ANY kind!)
