Does anybody know if there are any kits of NIMITZ class carriers in 1/700? I am planning on building a diorama of the LINCOLN Strike Group but all the carrier kits are 1/720. Is there much of a noticeable difference between 1/700 and 1/720? I am used to building in the 1/350 scale. I don’t want the destroyers and cruisers looking too large compared to the carrier.
Thanks,
Scott
The only true 1/700 scale carriers i know of are Fujimi’s Kitty Hawk & Constellation. They are beautiful kits and the only plastic kits in this scale with hangar decks. As for your diorama plans, I’d say do it. The scale difference is tolerable IMHO.

The Nimitz class 1:720 difference its about 1/2 inch shorter than 1:700. Its not much.
Just divide the length by 720 and then by 700, you’ll find the difference between them.
As redbird1 says “The scale difference is tolerable IMHO.”
Yes, Italeri but in 1/720 scale. I am currently building this kit. My big problem is the i am building a waterline version and the kit is warped. Good luck
smoore,
I am currently doing the same thing you are planning. I have the Revell 1/720 scale Enterprise and the 1/700 scale JAG Long Beach in work. I also put together the 700 scale Tamiya Fletcher. When I did the conversion the difference I came up with wassomething like “.0002” difference. So I say “go for it!” I kind of got carried away with this idea and now have approximately 15 700 scale ship of various types. I am hoping to do some kind of naval port facility dio with these ships.
good day sirs,
i’m steve or volts of ipms philippines. is it also the same with the ww2 essex 1/700 and 1/720?
thanks
Hi
Trumpeter has already released a 1/700 Admiral Kunestov, and I believe that 1/700 kits of the Nimitz and Carl Vinson are due out at any time. The kits are highly detailed compared to the Italeri kits. The price will be around US$70.
The 1/720 kits do fit into a 1/700 collection.
Here’s the math:
Nimitz class carriers are a little over 1000 feet long, and i’ll use 1000 feet for the calculations.
[:D][:D]
1000 feet divided by 700 = 17.14 inchs
1000 feet divided by 720 = 16.66 inchs
Difference = 00.48 inchs = half an inch or 2.8% smaller. [8D]
To labor the point: [^]
one inch scale = 60 feet actual for a 1/720 scale kit.
one inch scale = 58 feet and 4 inchs for a 1/700 scale kit.
