1/600

very nice chris

Thanks Steve!

Hi Steve, I wanted to tell Chris that Ocean Liners are what I meant. I just couldn’t think of what they were called. Old age does that.

What are you building Steve?

hi gene , trumpeter’s 1/200 arizona , it’s a slow build , as I,ve got no paint and can’t get any for 3 week’s till I go through brisbane on holiday’s .

Lots and lots and lots of masking!

Let’s see . . . ocean liners in or about 1/600 . . .

Airfix 1. QE II

  1. Queen Mary

  2. Mauretania

  3. Canberra

Revell 1. Titanic

That’s not a bad collection!

Bill

Bill I wish they made them all in 1/350. That would make me happy!

Add the Airfix SS France on and you have the biggest selection of Liners and all in same scale.

Academy made a very nice 1/600 Titanic too.

ChrisSC,

That window painting is Purrrrfect.

Thank you for presenting your work on the Queen Elizabeth .

Nino

MY BAD!!! I listed that Revell had released the Lusitania. I meant Titanic. My wife gave me decaf this morning!

Bill

Thanks Nino, I hear that the 1/600 France is hard to find. Bill, I have built the 1/350 Titanic and have the 1/200 Trumpeter version yet to build. I am Titaniced out lol!

I did a little more detailing on my 1/600 Queen Elizabeth. I used some left over 1/350 photo etch for the vents and made some decals for side windows. If there’s no rain tomorrow I’ll spray flat clear over everything to seal it up.

I forgot about the France! I understand that 1/350 is a great scale, but picture that collection of 1/600 liners in a display, especially given the quality of the work we are seeing here!

There are two kits of the Mauretania and one kit of the France currently on Oldmodelkits.com. As expected, the France is expensive. There are also two kits of the Canberra and one of QE II on ebay.

Bill

Wow I went and looked at that France on Old Model Kits. You certainly weren’t kidding about the price! I bought the Glencoe version but I don’t think I will ever build it, it just doesn’t look like anything I could make a nice model out of. I understand the SS United States model is similarly underwhelming.
The 1/600 scale is actually quite a challenge to detail. I figured it would be a quick build but the smaller scale is time consuming. I’ll see how this one turns out, if I like the results I may buy the other 1/600 liners. They are certainly easier to display at their size.

A member here bought the France and sent me some pictures of the kit in the box.

His particular copy- the quality of the resin castings was really horrible.

EDIT: Correction, it is the Normandie.

Bill

Bill, I think you might be thinking of The Normandie model as opposed to The France. I don’t believe there is a resin France but I could be wrong.

Hey, Chris SC;

Do you have the Pixar lamp with you? I see his bright face right there on your bench LOL.LOL. Painting looks great like I said.

Thanks. The overhead lights reflecting off the glass I use to cut the PE.

The listing for the Airfix France on Oldmodelkits.com claims that the parts are molded in white and clear plastic. Nowhere does it say that the kit is resin.

Chris, you are doing an exceptional job on this model! It would make for an exceptional display should you wish to pursue a collection of liners in 1/600.

Bill

My mistake. The Normandie.

I added some windows to and dry fitted the upper deck. It will need a few adjustments but it lines up pretty good so far.

Well I don’t know if it was worth the time and effort but there are now tiny white 1/600 PE anchor chains on there. I held them for painting with a tweezers and some leftover pieces of the PE tree.
