1/48 vehicle ?

As popular as 1/48 scale is to aviation modelers, why are there not more 1/48 scale vehicles produced to complement your models?

Has anyone ever tried to lobby the manufacturers for more 1/48 vehicles?

Does anyone care?

What type of vehicles are you looking for? There is a large assortment of tanks, trucks, and GSE already available.

There are a fair number of aviation support vehicles available. Some are resin & are pricey & hard to find, but they are there if you look hard enough.

Regards, Rick

Both Tamiya and Italeri have 1/48 vehicles. It is a bit of a “new scale” for vehicles but it is becoming increasingly popular.

The only 1/48th vehicles that Tamiya has put out that are really useful for aircraft dios are the 2 1/2 ton truck, the Kubelwagen, and the US Army Staff car… They really need to put a Jeep kit out, the rest of the armor isn’t of much use in Aviation… A Kettenkraftrad would be a good one too… Bandai had 1/48th scale wheels many many, years ago, but they’ve been gone a long time…

The Tamiya 2 1/2 ton is a good kit for conversion to a bomb truck too…

Ahhh, but Tamiya does have a jeep in 1/48… to get around those corporate lawyer scallywags they included one in thier Infantry at Rest set as part of the accesories, but did not name it…

Hasegawa also does a 1/48 “follow me” airfield jeep

Revell produced a few 1:48 scale vehicles decades ago. I have a Ford F-100 pickup in my stash. You need to expand your purview to include O gauge railroad offerings to see more of what is out there for 1:48/O gauge vehicles.

Tamiya have both a Jeep and a Kettenkraftrad out.

If you’re looking for civilian vehicles and even some military, look for 1/43 or O scale diecast models at the hobby shop or RR store

Hope this helps

James

For the most part 1/48 scale does well in Japan…not so much here in the states, if you look hard enough you can find some very cool stuff. The Tamiya jeep is somthing to have i your stash…they just could not use the word Jeep on the box.
