1/48 Tamiya Messerschmitt Bf109 G-6

Hello Everybody,

My wife picked this kit for me. I think she wanted to challenge me with the mottled camouflage. It’s OOTB with the JG52, Novo-Zaporozhye marking option. It’s a beautiful kit, and it went together quickly and easily. I did have to be careful with opening the correct holes for my chosen marking option. The canopy masks supplied by Tamiya had a tendency to lift at the edges, and the kit decals were pretty thick. Other than those small critiques, it’s a beautiful kit.

Thank you for looking,

and Happy Thanksgiving,

Chris

Good-looking 109, Chris. You did well with the mottling.

I look forward to building a Tamiya 109 one day.

Challenge fulfilled, the mottling looks great!

Looks fantastic. The kit comes with engine and everything?

Outstanding - love the WIP shot showing the work you put into the cockpit and engine. The mottle is spot on, great model. Happy Thanksgiving!

Mike

Yes! It also comes with two upper cowlings and two lower cowlings. The kit is designed so the modeller may switch between cowls open or cowls closed. It uses magnets to hold those pieces in place. The engine does look nice, but I prefer the cowls closed. It looks sleek that way. However, I have the option of putting it on a base with mechanics or armorers to show it getting serviced. It’s some great engineering on an interesting feature from Tamiya.

Very well done. Tamiya just keeps doing better and better.

Thank you. I just saw the New-Product-Rundown of Tamiya’s new Spitfire. It looks very nice as well. I wouldn’t think these two subjects needed to be re-done, but the new ones are on a level above the old offerings.

Fine camo painting as others have said. Very well done altogether.

Which is you choice of matte coat? Looks really good.

I’ve used Tamiya’s XF-86 Clear Flat for my last two builds. I like it. I mix it 50/50 with Tamiya X-20A thinner, and I apply it between 3 and 6 inches away from the model with “medium” air pressure. Sorry, I do not have a gauge, I just go by the pressure knob position.

You did a great job on the mottling. Very nice 109.

Thank you,

The mottling was a new challenge, and it turned out well. However, I left some room for improvement.
