I’ve been working on this on and off since early February, and I’m finally done!
No need to tell anyone how effortlessly this kit falls together. I made it a bit hard on myself painting all the markings from self-made masks, but used the decals for the swastikas! That’d have definitely been over the edge!!
OOB mostly, except for some things here and there:
*Morane mast replaced with fine brass wire
*“Springs” added to the undercarriage with fine brass wire
*Gear indicators added with scrap plastic
*Eduard seatbelts added.
Here are some photos! Criticize, congratulate, what-have-you! (I know, too heavy on the exhaust staining…) Thanks for lookin’ guys!
Another one! there things are poping up like weeds around here. Did I miss a 190 group build? drummy that A-8 looks great. The exhaust stains look fine. All 190’s had heavy exhaust stains due to heavy use and poor fuel quality. Infact Everything looks top notch from here. I like the added gear indcator and the fact you painted the stripes on them. You would not believe how many people forget this. At a model recent show I saw about 8 of these and not a one had this. As a 190 nut myself I can see all the added little details you have. White wall rear tire, antenna line going inside the canopy, Not ot mention the throttle (correct color and looks to scale) and landing gears details all make for a very well dressed 190. The others already said the weathering is excellent.
I appreciate the kind words! I was a bit worried about the exhaust staining, but haven’t gotten too many negative comments on them. Glad that it’s workin’ out ok, then! I’m pretty pleased with this one. My first completed 190.
I only wish I could build one that good in two lifetimes! That plane has the look of a well used piece of equipment. One of the things that caught my eye was the way the wing roots were done. The metal almost looks “stressed.” Nothing shiney, and not too dirty, but dirty in the right places.
OMG!!! This has to be one of the best looking 190’s I have laid eyes on. I don’t know what else to say that has not already been covered by the others. I think the exhaust looks just right. The subtle paint effects, and the fine-feathering on your camo is once again first rate. The little details like the gear indicators and the leather strip in the cockpit really add a lot of authenticity. And to top it all of, HAND PAINTED MARKINGS!!! You really outdid yourself on this build Justin. Can’t wait to see what you build next! [bow]
[#ditto] This is simply superb, Justin! The weathering looks spot on. The uniformity of the pre-shading where the camo colors change is a technique you look to have mastered. I just simply cannot wait to see the work you do on your Sopwith Camel! [tup]
Well, the wing walks were more of a mistake than anything. I strayed from my usual silver Prismacolor, and went back to my more “vintage” method of using chrome silver paint toned down by black, just to change it up a bit. I ended up doing a wash over the silver, and DOH! forgot that an oil wash over enamel paint would simply muddy up everything. It did muddy it up a bit, but I thought that the effect was cool, so I left it alone!
Mike/Frank- coming from you guys, it really means a ton! I’m glad to have this forum to share my stuff with people on! It’s hard being on a little island out here in West Texas all by yourself!!
