1/48 Tamiya Bf109 E-4/7 Trop Lt Werner Schroer JG 27

Well this was an extremely fun kit to build. Most of the troubles were of my own making such as forgetting to put in the little armor plate behind the pilots head before I cemented the canopy on. The colors are Model Master acrylic RLM/65/79/80. For some reason I had some lift off of the 65 as you can see. I decided to make it as historically accurate as I could compared to the color pic, so I used the template and cut out all the spots with a fine ballpoint pen against a metal plate. That worked great. It took me about 3 hours to do all the “cutting” First time I used Alclad’s Aqua Gloss and I was really happy with how that went on. The main issue I had was with the decals. Despite using micro set to place the smaller ones they just fell off. The red “____zu” decals are from another kit. I must admit that I did not place the number decals. I figured they would fall off too so I just used a fine black marker to make spots. I would like to thank Lawdog for all of his advice on this built. His assistance helped me to greatly improve my skills. I still have along way to go but I’m inching forward. Thanks for looking

Looks great Robert! The mask is a great idea. Maybe a market for that.

Thanks John

It tedious but I like how it turned out

Turned out beautiful Robert! That camo turned out perfect. You should be proud of that. Joe

The camouflage is terrific! Musta taken you a week to cut the pattern out.

Beautiful work. That camo looks spot on!

Thanks Joe you had a lot to do with how it turned out

Thank you!

Actually it went faster than I thought it was 3 hours worth

I have an old Hasegawa Bf 109 kit on tap. The box art is this airplane. I thought about it but the camouglage pattern looked to be too complicated for this old man. Instead, mine is going to be one of the yellow nose “Abbeville Boys” during the Battle of Britain.

The camo technique produces great results! The antennae wire looks great too.

The masks worked great! Beautiful job replicating the actual plane. [Y]

You did a great job on a tough scheme! Love the mask idea!

Thanks guys I’m glad the pen worked. There was no way I could’ve cut those out with a knife. I’m sure I would’ve lost a finger or three if I tried
