1/48 Stug III Ausf B - my first armor in 25 years

I just finished my first armor kit in some 25 years, I’ve been strictly airplanes since I started modelling agian. This is the new Tamiya 1/48 series, just a great kit.

I would welcome any comment & criticism, as I such a newbie with Armor -quite a bit have changed since I last built armor with vinyl tracks that can’t be painted and doesn’t stayed glued.

I don’t know of any criticism to make, because it looks pretty darn great to me. I really like the weathering with the dusty running gear and fadded upper hull panels.

If you didn’t say that it was your first armor build in 25 years, I never would have known. It look great. The weathering is very well done. Great build.

Great looking build, especially considering it’s you first AFV in 25 years!

Did you use any PE?

BTW that kit’s on this flyboy’s Xmas list as well!

Karl

Nicely done, I like the weathering. I see a little hiccup at the top of the left sprocket where the track didn’t quite mesh into the sprocket teeth. Nothing major.

Great job! It looks great!

Beautiful looking stuggy.

no criticisim here…only praise. That’s 1/48th? looks like 1/35 with the way you finished it. excellant job.

Thanks for the comments.

Karl, I used Lions Roar PE set, I have a picture & description of the set here http://waihobbies.wkhc.net/StugIII.html

Rob, you got a sharp eye! Appreciate your comment.

Way better weathering that anything I can do and I have been building for over 25 years. Outstanding.

I’m assuming that your Tamaya kit had those fabulous tracks. I’m looking at the ‘Lion Roar’ package and am wondering if you know, do they or someone else supply tracks for the lowly Kitech 1/48 tracks? Or, do you, obviously a true pro, have some suggestions to address this problem. BTW I’m in awe of your work and the photos of the progress you did. It belongs in FSM w/ cover picture.

Well, thanks for your high praise! Funny, I just finished reply to the thread your started about the tracks. When I finished replying to that note, I saw your posting here. Take a look at the reply to your original message.

Nice job over all. Great white wash. Are those indy tracks?

No, those tracks are out of the box. They come as links and length, much easier than individual links to put together, but sitll gives you a nice sag.

Thats just beautiful!
Wonderful care of detail, how did you do the metal schen on the running gear?
Lead Pen?

Thank You for sharing!

Thanks for the compliment and yes, I use a simple lead pencil to get the metalic sheen.

Nice work, it looks great. Looking forward to seeing more builds from you on the quarter scale kits.

Wow, why aren’t you building more armour? You did a great job on the StuG.

Larry & Zokkisma, thanks for your kind words. As for building more armor, I just added armor to my modelling. I’m really excited about these 1/48th armor kits and have the Tiger I and Sherman waiting in the wings. The new Panther, Pzkpfw IV, and M10 looks really nice and will be on my next to purchase list.

lol…ya sure your a newbie…that looks really good for a newbie!

But yes damn good job keep it up!
