Hey Guys,
I bought my Hasegawa Spitfire MK IXc in 1/48 back in 2001 when this kit came out and I’m pulling it off the shelf now to finally finish to find out it’s out of scale (measurements are out, I’m sure you’re all aware of this) any pointers to correct this ??? I don’t think Hasegawa fixed this but I recently heard of a corrective kit out there and any info on any of this would be appreciated. I spent quite a lot of money to get this kit then and any explanations/solutions would help very much.
It pretty much takes a new fuselage to get it right because of where the short places are. Aeroclub as Edgar says, or just build it and be happy. If you want an accurate outline for a Mk IX out of the box, so far as I know you have to suffer through the ICM kit.
The Hasegawa looks nice once it is built, but if it bothers you it bothers you.
I think it looks a whole stinking lot like a Mk.IX right out of the box, I’ld like to see someone build two, one how it is, and one corrected and see how hard it is to tell the difference without a ruler. Sometimes things aren’t right and look not right, like Trumpeter’s C-47 cowlings and canopy, and somethings aren’t right but it looks right and if nobody told you it isn’t right you’ld be perfectly content with it, but now you know so it’s bugging you, but that’s just my thoughts.
[#ditto] to the replies above. Sometimes, I think that we (I know that I do) stress about the ‘accuracy’ of a build and fail to enjoy the process. I have the same kit in my stash and intend to build ‘as is’. I have enough stress in my life these days without letting my ‘hobby’ become a stressor.
Please post pics when you finish the build.
You know I had allready started to build this kit back in '01 and was finishing detailing the cockpit. I was thinking what you guys have stated and just build it and enjoy it, it is still a really nice kit, and forget about the incorrect measurements. Thanks guys.
Amen to all that! Just build it! Don’t worry about it. I used a Quickboost Mk. VII conversion on one a few months back and it looks great. Who cares if it isn’t absolutely perfect.
