1/48 scale F-5,?

Who does one, and if there is more than one which is the best kit to get?

Rob

Classic Airframes does an F-5 series. Monogram/Revell did one, but maybe a little hard to find.
And if I ain’t mistaken, Testors also did one, or atleast they did a T-38

I have found the Revell kit on evilbay for £9.00 (about $12) does anyone know if it is any good as a build?

Esci made a kit. I don’t know who has their molds now, or if any of the old ones are around. I also don’t know about the quality of this particular kit.

The old Monogram (Revell) kit was the best in its day. There are some fit problems and the canopy mechanism is a little tricky. It can be built into a very nice model. The ESCI kit is very bad, no detail in the cockpit or wheel wells. It is nothing more than a rebox of the Fujimi kit. Of the two, the Monogram kit is the best.

I’ve got a Classic Airframes kit, it looks nice but I haven’t started it and I’ve heard from others that there are a lot of fit problems.

Definitely steer clear of the Testors/Italeri “1/48” F-5A. Its molds date back to the 60s somewhere and it actually scales out to about 1/50.

The Monogram ones were good, I remember their F-5F quite fondly. They are your best bet if you can find them and don’t feel like spending the money on, or dealing with the limited run genre idiosynchrasies of the Classic Airframes series.

Thanks guys Revellogram for me I reckon!

Check out the Revell/Monogram web site, or the Revell of Germany web site. I think I saw the F-5 on one of those sites as a “soon to be released” (again) kit.

I’ve got the Italeri F-5 in my pile. 1/48 or 1/50? - wouldn’t be able to tell you the differences to be honest. For me it looks like an F-5, & I know my mates are going to gawp when they see it in the cabinet in some funky, cool camo scheme.
