I was looking at R/M’s website and saw that they have the Super Bug “available”. Has anyone seen this kit anywhere? If so, has anyone bought it and how’s the detail? Hopefully it’s a lot better than Italeri’s.
It’s been promised for quite a while, but I don’t think it’s been released yet. Some pre-release reviews put it in the same category as their F-15 kit, which is a good thing.
Regards, Rick
I am anxiously awaiting the release of this kit. The Hornet is one of my top 5 all time favorites.

I’ve been waiting for this one too, and also love ‘The Bug’ and can’t wait. As far as detail, I have been very happy with every R/M kit I’ve bought in the last year and wouldn’t hesitate to pick up this one. If somebody does find out the release date, or finds this kit make sure you post it on the aircraft page. I for one will add it to my extensive " to do" pile accumulating rapidly in the closet.
A posting on AircraftResourceCenter.com by Josh Silver says he picked one up in England, and that it’s a reboxing of the Italeri kit. Odd that it was due last Sept., and still not available here? A long time to rebox, maybe a little ( or a lot ) of retooling, let’s hope…He’s got photos of the parts trees if you want to check it out.
i agree gentlmen,
the only ray of hope Josh Silver’s article is the catalog number on the box is different from the cat # listed on R/M homepage for the F/A-18E. Regretabley i believe it will be a re-boxing

BWOG,
Here’s the article by Josh Silver: http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/Rev1/301-400/Rev365_Revell_F-18E_Silver/rev365.htm
The article refers to the molds as a prototype with no IFF bulge on the nose. The Revell/Monogram website shows a pic of their Super Bug with a IFF bulge on the nose. I think there’ll be a different mold all together, since no one has seen the new R/M kit in the U.S.
Thanks DF,
I’m a little more optimistic now.[:p]

It’s easier to laugh than cry[:D] I’m holding out as well.
Recently spoke to my local hobby shop guy, and though the F/A-18E from Revell/Monogram appears to have been released, according to their website, it is in fact not out yet. The good news is that the kit Josh has is in fact an Italeri rebox by Revell Germany. The Revell/Monogram kit will be all new molds. This is very good news…
This site by Brett Green seems to answer the question-I think. http://kits.kitreview.com/revellpreviewbg_1.htm
SWEET!!![:D]
I heard that Hasegawa is coming out with a release of the F-18F in 1/48 scale this August. I wonder how that would fare against R/M’s. Perhaps RM’s release is being delayed in anticipation of the competition. My guess is that Hasegawa’s will fare poorly in the cockpit detail but well overall, as was the case in it’s Harrier II release.
I hope the Hasegawa kits’ cockpits aren’t like their 1/72 scale Super Bugs; decals only. Their Harrier II/II+ kits do have better cockpits though. The Revell-Monogram will probably be cheaper than the Hasegawa in the U.S., will probably be reversed in Japan.
I hope they release the RM F-18E next month as promised in RM’s website. I have a Two-Bob’s decal sheet for the plane waiting and the Italeri version of the kit which I hope not to build. I have a question. I also have the Black Box cockpit set which is for the E version of the Italeri kit but which is fantastic nonetheless. The details are superb. Can that be used and modified for at least the RM release, if not future releases, say an F-18E in 1/48 scale by Hasegawa?
LONG LIVE THE F-14!!!
DEATH TO THE ‘SUCCESSOR’
nothing will ever really succeed the F-14 fyi
cool looking kit though. interested to sit it completed to a ‘Carlie’ version
With a little creativity, I don’t see why you couldn’t use the Blackbox upgrade for the Italeri kit for something like a future Hasegawa kit.
I’d be interested in checking out the RM Rhino series. I’m sure a release by Hasegawa or Tamiya would be $30+. - Calvin
I saw the test shots in Phoenix last summer, and spoke with Mr. Sexton from Revell as well…this is an all-new tooled kit, not the Italeri kit. Revell-Germany, although affiliated with Revell, does their own thing. As far as Hasegawa’s kit, they will both be released in the near future, then after they are on the market for a bit, will be re-boxed in the other companie’s packaging (Revell re-released by Hasegawa, and Hasegawa re-released by Revell) through a mutual agreement between the two. Should make for some nice jet building!!
Where I can buy the Balck Box cockpit set for the Italeri f/a-18e 1/48
I don´t find thats set anywhere!
Thanks!
