1/48 Monogram/Revell (Monovell) P-40B - Completed pg. 6

Well this will be my second Monogram/Revell P-40B I’ve done on this Forum. The first time was for my son and I made it straight OOB. It turned out okay.

This time I’m having some fun with it. What I’ve got done so far is the right side pit wall and the floor/seat/IP area. I haven’t started on the left side wall yet.

This build is for the “Where are you from?” Group Build on Genessis. So far I’m having a blast with all of this scratch building. Although its not entirely accurate, I have mixed up a few ideas from different reference pictures and a little imagination.

So while I wait for the Mo jo to return on my P-36A, I’ll be messing around with this classic.

Thanks for checking-in and have a great day!

Excellent scratch work!

Looking great so far!

Great looking work thus far, Brendos. Really enjoy seeing the progress on the scratch building.

Nice straight and square work.

Beautiful start! I will definately be following this one.

Umm all I can say is WOW

I thought I was ambitious with my build, but scratching out the office, well now, that’s something else all together. Very nice work on the pit. I’m hoping to find the ambition to get back on mine as it is languishing on the shelf of doom at the moment. I’ll be watching.

Mike, I always enjoy watching someone build that ol Revell P-40 kit. I have a feeling that this i going to be an exciting build. Have fun!

Thank you everyone! Thank you ALL very much!

BK, perhaps you’ll find inspiration soon.

Who doesn’t like a good Monogram P-40 build being completed ? Lol

I finished the C channels and now the canopy is fully functional.

Now, to finish that left side cockpit wall.

That is really awesome Mike! The scratch-built detail looks really great. But the functional canopy? That’s just too cool.

Thanks, Bob! I did the same thing with my Spitfire. I had to rebuild the entire frame for that one though. This one has been easy in comparison.

No need to rebuild canopy frames on this one. The fit is mostly good still.

Mike, before you finishs your cockpit, check your references. I think that you will see that those bars along the sides of the open cockpit are atually part of the canopy. If your canopy is slid back/open, the bottom/bars goes with it!

Aw another one…I’ll be watching

The parts molded to the outsides of the pit, Shipwreck?

You’re right, I’ll have to check my references on that. If so, I can fix that.

Thanks for pointing that out. I was just so happy with making it work that it escaped my attention.

Mike don’t feel bad, most people miss that when they open the canopy of the Revell P-40. It becomes obvious if you look at a photo of a real aircraft that has an open canopy. You may note that the front piece of that molded on panel on the kit is not part of the sliding canopy. it is actually under the wind screen and acts as a forward stop! I hope the adjustment does not interfere with all that fine work you have done.

Fixing the office is the hardest part of building the Revell kit. I scratch built mine and then closed the canopy. I have the new Airfix kit in my stash; it comes with an excellent interior, complete with the proper curve in the floor board to represent the wing top.

Thanks, Shipwreck. I fixed it.

I have the new Airfix P-40B as well. It’s a wonderful kit and goes together really well.

Thanks again for pointing out the canopy mistake. Like I said, I totally missed it.

But all is well now and it’s looking great. I only have the throttle controls to fabricate on the left side wall and I can start painting the pit.

My attemp last night ended up as a glue sandwich once it came out of the clamp lol. It wasn’t good enough anyways. No worries.

Looking great so far Mike! Can’t wait to see more.
