I got this off ebay, quite a few parts were loose and the decals are a little yellow. I’ve started painting the interior and just finshed spray painting the exterior. i know my setup is pretty basic.

Youngest has been sick so haven’t had any real time to work on it, but finally got the cockpit together, still needs some touch up.

Those classic Monogram kits are my all-time favorites. I’ll definitely be watching this one.
More importantly, I hope your little one is feeling better real soon. There’s no worse feeling in the world than being a parent and not being able to make your child feel better.

THanks, she went back to school yesterday(tuesday) She has a neuromuscular disease so being sick is nothing we’re not used to. She’s been doing better since i retired and became her full time caregiver
I’ve been very pleased with the fit of the parts and put most of my troubles to bad eyesight and non_nimble fingers. The directions seem sometimes a little vague to me but it’s all worked out so far even the notorious stabilizer went in nice.
Ugh what am I doing wrong here? 2 coats of flat yellow and this is what I’m getting. I’m going to remove it and try again so any ideas would be great. Also any ideas on what I can use to keep the nose down? I have a little room in the Armament compartment.
Yellow is notoriosly hard to paint. It seems a bit easier if you first lay down a coat of flat white, then the yellow over that .
I use lead fishing sinkers for nose weights . They’re cheap and easy to beat in shape if you need to.
I tried using the flat white as a primer and just finished painting the yellow, so far so good. I had thought about using fishing weights, so I picked some up today, ended upt having to remove some of the gun compartment because of the bad fit I was getting with the hinged door but that gave me more room for a weight. Also had to remove the hinge and glue the doors on. If you notice in the picture I also had to add a weight to each of the engine compartments which finally got the tail off the ground lol.

looks like I’m going decal hunting, I was a little worried when I saw how yellow they were but yeah they aren’t sticking very well.
Using decal set solution it seems I was able to get the important decal on and finish it up, I’ll eventually buy some good decals for it. The canopy hinge actually works but I need suggestions on what glue to use on clear plastic.
I’ve always been a big fan of the Monogram P-38, warts and all. Yours turned out looking real good. Yellow is definitely one of those colors that is nearly impossible to hand brush on and have it turn out well. For colors like yellow and white, I like to either airbrush them on or use a rattle can.
I hope you don’t mind a little observation here but your national insignias on the top of the wing and on the port-side boom are both upside down. Other than that, I really like your P-38 a lot! It looks great. [t$t]

No I don’t mind at all and thank you. I’m usually pretty careful about the points on the stars so have no excuse lol. I just barely remember putting a P38 together as a kid and I’m pretty sure the nose was one piee except for the tip with the gun barrels. With this old Monogram I thought the open gun compartment was cool the extra points of contact made it a nightmare to get everything lined up.
As echolmberg mentioned and pointed out already in regards to the US star being upside down, I think you did a fantastic job overall on this classic kit. We all make mistakes, it’s no big deal as you’ll just learn from this issue. I’ve done much much worse and have definately angered the model Gods and will suffer their wrath for an eternity! LOL!
May I ask what type of silver paint (Brand, enamel, or acrylic) did you utilize for the main fueselage? It looks really good! Also what type of equipment/tools did you utilize to spray the silver on? Rattle can or AB? If AB, what type and brand do you have? Thank you in advance. I’m just curious and I hope you don’t mind. If I over stepped myself please disregard my questions and except my appolagy.

I do really love the P-38 Lightning. I made this same kit last year. You can check it out as it was a WIP thread. I have now donated that build to my therapist (Psychologist, whom helps me with my depression due to my TBI traumatic brain injury) as she has helped me so much. She has it displayed on her book shelf in her office.
A lot of my completed models have been donated to my doctors and therapists as they have helped me for over 7 years since my injury. It was these proffesionals that recommended that I build model kits. I so refused with great hatred to build models at first. My first kit that they purchased was a Testors 1/72 F4U Corsair. And that’s how I returned back to the hobby that I love so much!
As I had mentioned in the above paragraph in how much I love the P-38 Lightning, I ordered another P-38 as I am awaiting on a Academy 1/48 P-38 Lightning via eBay from Seoul, Korea. I also ordered via eBay an Eduard Brassin “Big Sin” Resin/Photoetch set from Australia. I’m very excited to see these 2 items arrive. The P-38 is so cool!

I used a rattle can of Tamiya Gloss Aluminum TS-17 acrylic, I was even pleased with it. My daughter is somewhat better, went to school yesterday missed today and will miss tomorrow, not real sure what kind of bug is going around but I wish it would go away. this is frustrating both of us. Thanks for asking.
I’m going to look into doing another P38 in the future but have to work thru the stash I have now lol. Just opened the box on my Avenger so look for that.
