My museum needed a P-47 for the European Theater of Operations display case, so I reduced my stash and pulled out the old Monogram P-47. It also gave me the opportunity to build a scheme that I’ve loved since I was a kid and saw it in numerous books with the yellow nose and winged skull. Please forgive any accuracy issues, as I built it out of the box, so the prop and wheels may be wrong. I sprayed it overall gloss enamel black, then sprayed Alclad Polished Aluminum. I then went back over that with some varying shades (which you can’t really see in the pictures). This was followed by a light misting of White Aluminum to tone down the shine. After the decals, which went on without a hitch, I used raw umber pastel chalk to highlight some of the raised lines. I also did some chipping, which I probably overdid. I’ll chalk it up to being a jet guy. I also tried to dirty up the wheels and bottom edge of the landing gear doors. Hopefully I haven’t insulted the prop builder’s sensibilities! LOL
Beautiful job on a very old mold. The NMF is spot on with some light weathering. Well done Sir! [B]
Those old Monogram Jugs can make very handsome models at a budget price. The pits are a bit basic but can benefit from a resin one. Squadron puts the True Details resin pits on sale once in a while for the 1/48 Jugs at $5 to $6 and cheaper I think.
