1/48 Monogram OS2U Kingfisher

It’s been a while since I’ve put an aircraft build on my bench. I’ve got a 2017 Camaro build right now that is moving reeeeeeeeeal slow and I was getting bored and becoming unmotivated so I thought I’d switch things up a bit.

This kit and the 3 D printed upgrade kit came in the mail a few days ago. A buddy of mine elsewhere is working on one of these and inspired me to build my own Kingfisher. Not ever liking the Monogram kit because of its primitive details, I’ve skipped over this one my whole life…UNTIL I found this upgrade set from Flightline Engineering. This upgrade breathes a whole new life into what I can do with this kit and at around $50 shipped, it’s fairly competitively priced in todays market.

I hope to start this build pretty soon. Gotta get some headway on that Camaro now…

Nice project Joe

I loved that kit! Built mine in the early sixties, but it was a very nice kit. I’m going to look at that upgrade kit, then look for the plane kit.

I built this one and did resin pits and float from Lone Star Models. That was before all the 3D stuff came out. It looks great and you’ll love having it done. Looking forwad to seeing this one come along.

Thanks Tony, Don and Brandon.

Don: Wait’ll you see the upgrade kit. It takes this one to a whole new level. I’ve got another automotive project to finish but if I get to mine before you do yours, I’ll cover the pros and cons of the upgrade to give a heads up on what to expect.

Brandon: I may be joining your GB with this one. Just gotta get this Camaro I’ve got going finished.

Great to see that some 3-D printer has come to the rescue of that old seabird, since the Cutting Edge resin corrections are no longer available. The cockpit looks great and is badly needed with that open canopy!
I’m looking forward to seeing how yours will dress up!

Flightline Engineering…ah, yes! Mark Buchler’s site. He had or has nice upgrades for some classic like the Lindberg F11C kit.

I look forward to following your build. I like the old Monogram kit, but I acknowledge that it can always stand some upgrading.

I built it as a kid, but in the landplane configuration. Someday I’ll get around to building it again.
