1/48 Monogram F-4J

I completed another Bicentennial scheme for my collection. This one has been sitting on the shelf 80% complete for awhile now and I decided to knock it out. It’s the Monogram kit out of the box with a set of Steel Beach intake plugs. The decals are from a Hasegawa kit, which fit surprisingly well. Even with newer kits out, I still love this old Monogram kit. I’ve got some work to do on the metal area of the stabs, but I need to get a silver Prisma pencil to finish it.

Another very nice build Darren. I always enjoy the colourful aircraft.

That’s a Monogram kit? You did a fantastic job on absolutely everything. WOW!!!

Those Monogram Phantoms are the best! Well, they’re my favorites anyway. Excellent job on such a colorful bird there, Darren. [:D[

Beautifully done! I would offer this as feedback, though: The ECM gear on the intakes is the wrong length for a J. The Monogram kit parts are the correct length for a F-4N; the F-4J/S had shorter ECM antennas. Otherwise, fantastic work. I’ve been lurking here for a bit now and always enjoy your work and your subject matter. And I’m a satisfied customer, BTW!

Hey Darren, another good job, love those Phantoms! Keep up the good work.

What’s funny is I just looked at a picture to get an idea what the stabs should look like and noticed that. I decided I didn’t want to go back and try and change them, since all the paint was on. You’d think I would have noticed it before that!

Wow! Nice looking airplane. I love the colors.

I really find this striking! Everything looks so crisp. Well done.

Excellent work! [Y] Which boxing of the kit was this?

Wow, that is really really nice.

How did I miss this. Really nice. The bicentennial schemes are great.

It was the Black Bunny kit, which was molded in black. That helped with the panel lines. After painting, I simply lightly sanded the paint and the black lines showed through.
