It has been awhile since I’ve posted.
Here’s the Revell 1/48th Mercury and Gemini spacecraft. I’ve added the Real Space update parts and I haven’t decided how I’ll finally mount them in a case, so the mounts are temporary.
The Mercury is an attempt at the MA 6 Sigma 7 spacecraft. The only Revell parts are the heat shield, hatch and retro pack. The main body is the Real Space part. The decals are from Space Model Systems.
The antenna from the retro pack is a bit of a guess. I know the spacecraft had them as Schirra mentions the spring out antenna. But finding photos representing them was hard. I found shots of another model and sort of went from there.
Sigma 7 also had some experimental material panels that I represented using some stock strip.
The Gemini represents any of the last few flights. The Real Space parts are the front ca,p the thruster panels and a vac-formed shield for the aft end. I covered it with Real Metal Foil. The decals again are from Space Systems. The black ovals on the adapter section represent velcro patches the EVA astronaut could use as he moved around the craft.
They were a fun build although they are old kits and the fact that Revell engineered the Gemini to come apart added a challenge or two.
I built these as a kid many many years ago.
