1/48 Kawanishi / Yokosuka K5Y1 "Willow" Completed - PICS

It’s a good thing I saw this post. I was about to take my kit to the Space Coast contest Saturday and try to sell it. Now I’m keeping it and doing the silver and dor my 1.72nd in orange.

Great build, what’s next?

Thank you for the encouragement, Jerry, Andy, mkhoot, trexx, cdclukey, and raptordriver. It really does mean lot to hear your comments.

Dave, Guy and Jeremias: I do have to say I’m impressed with the Citidel Colours silver I used (they make a very other shades, as well). It definately won’t replace the Alclad for true NMF finishes, but it has a much finer grain than the Tamiya or other silvers I’ve used. The only realy drawback I found is you can’t really pour directly from the “tin” without making a mess, but, hey, you can’t have everything (where would you put it?). It’s nice to see others have used and liked this stuff as well. Maybe they should start an aircraft line to gain more Customers. It seems like since they are mainly wargamer paints, it turns off the non wargamers.

Claudez: Wow, 3,000! Just like old age, it creeps rigt up on you. But when you see the likes of some of the others (Rick, DayWalker, Wingnut, etc.), I’m still “young” at 3,000.

Ikar01: I’m glad that you’re going to build the Willow…although 1/72 has got to be a challenge. The orange is a neat trainer scheme (especially if you havethe right brightness), but I’ve always been partial to the red, black and grey or silver schemes. Maybe it’s becuase I was born in the Buckeye state? I will be looking for prorgess pics! And if it is any help, Cardshark14 has posted some GREAT photos on pages 20 and 21 of the IJA/IJN Kits that never get built GB.

THanks again, everyone.

Very nice work, especially the NMF finish.

Holy cow! Charles, what a beautiful plane you made! I always loved japanese airplanes. And with this rare subjet you made a really beauty.

What did you use for the rigging?

Congrats for ur plane! Cheers!

Alfredo.

Thank you, Darwin and Alfredo.

Alfredo: I know what you mean about Japanese airplanes…there is just something about them…maybe it is the “rarity” aspect. Most people know Zeros, but very few others. Just for fun, I’ve go my eyes on one of the PLanet Models Nakajima Ki-4 bi-planes. I can’t find any reviews, though.

I used the kit-supplied piano wire for the rigging. I have to say, Arii made it very easy, relatively speaking.

Charles those citadel paints are great. I think they use extremely fine pigments for the reason you said, theyre for figure painting. As for decanting it without a mess. I use a stirrer and decant it into a mixing pallet where i add thinner and spray with the stuff. Give it a go. All my citadel pots are muck free [:D]

…Guy

Unfortunately I couldn’t find any reviews of this Ki-4 either, but if I find some I’ll let you know.

Mucker! Wow! [bow] She looks great! I especially like the rigging, it turned out very nicely! I think its safe to say that you’ve done our GB proud! [:)]

Alfredo, on the Ki-4:

If you decide to build it, swing by the GB, and I’ll give you what information I have.[tup]

May you have better luck than I did. It took me weeks to figure it out and get it working.

I’m not that good with computers.

Charles, I think that’s your finest work so far, which is saying a lot because you’ve done some great builds. She’s a beauty!
