1/48 Hobby Boss Su-17UM3 - Soviet Naval Air Forces, 1980-1990, Soviet Union

This is probably the most difficult Hobby Boss kit I have done to date, and I have done a lot. There is a huge amount of panels and rivets on the fuselage seam line (most I have ever come across on a model), and these need to be replaced as the fuselage was not the greatest fit…but maybe it was me.

Another problem are the centre pylons on the wings, I wanted to mount FAB 500 bombs on them but they did not fit as they hit the landing gear same as the rocket pods, so I left them empty. Also the landing gear legs have a pretty ordinary mount system that is shallow and flimsy.

That said, I am happy with the final result, great to see a modern kit of the Fitter, The towing dolly is a great touch and adds to the look of it. I am interested to see how the Kitty Hawk one goes together after doping this one.

Paint scheme on this is all Gunze Acrylics. Other paints used were Tamiya acylics, Vallejo Metal Color, Flory Dark Dirt Wash and MIG Satin Varnish.

Great Work on a difficult kit.

She looks stunning!

Very nice…I’ve built only one 1/48 jet model, the one 1/48 kit I can remember building, for sure the only one I’d fully painted: the Monogram F-101B using kit decals in 1989 for the long-late Sacramento Area Council Of Governments (SACOG) Executive Director Michael Hoffacker.

Mike ground serviced F-101s early in the Vietnam War, pointed out just two painting mistakes I’d made otherwise was ecstatic to get the model. For years thereafter Mike prominently displayed it in his executive office under a large, custom-made plastic display case, don’t know if it has survived though think it could have given the baby-care he’d lavished upon it whist at SACOG.

Another fantastic build to add to your collection!

WOW, she looks perfect, I couldn’t tell you’d had any problems with the kit. And love the camo and shading.
