1/48 Hasegawa Ju-87 B-2 "Stuka" (FINISHED)...

Just caught up with this one Joe and its a very impressive looking build ! The paint work on this is top notch!

Nicely done Joe! I tell ya, ever since I saw Tamiya’s stuka with the bomb loading set, I’ve been quietly counting the days till I start some ETO WW2 planes. =] Can’t wait to see her finished.

Thanks Trey and Bvallot.

I got a solid 4 hours of bench time in last night and I’m gonna call this one done. To recap, Its the 1/48 Hasegawa Ju-87 B-2 in the markings of 3/StG 2 in August of 1940 at the height of the Battle of Britain. Three Guys Replicas provided the markings. My research said that on August 16th 1940, T6+HL attacked Tangmere and was on the losing end of a fight with a 601 Squadron Hurricane. T6+HL then made an emergency landing near the Chichester-Selsey Road in Sussex. From what I read, Pilot Uffz. Ernst König and radio operator Uffz. Josef Schmid were wounded and subsequently POW’ed. There’s some evidence this was actually a B-1, but I decided not to drive myself crazy over the matter and just trust that Three Guys got it right. This is one of those good enough for me scenarios.

Reference the kit, I thought it was good. Most mishaps were my own doing, such as the broken mast when I was trying to rig the aerial wire (look close). I didn’t like the flap hinges that were misrepresented as blobs (which I didn’t mess with) or the way the front cowl fit, which had a gap. Photo evidence now showed the gap is supposed to be there…maybe next time. I enhanced the kit with Ultracast exhausts, Quickboost guns and seats, then finally True Details tires. I kept weathering to a minimum, such as some minor exhaust soot and wing root chipping. I figured this one wasn’t in service long enough to get dinged up too bad.

Thanks for following and comments are appreciated and welcome.

Joe

All accounts say that T6+HL was void of the “Jericho Trumpet”. I just couldn’t build a Battle of Britain Stuka without at least one.

Really nice bird. It looks so real. You nailed it again.

Joe, I don’t know how you turn out plane after plane so damn nicely. That glass is so crisp and clean, the antenna mast is a nice touch, and the weathering is always just enough to show some use while keeping it looking tidy. Very nice sir!! =]

I’m always a fan.

Yep, another beautiful airplane Joe! As said, your canopy glass is impeccable, and that applies to the whole nine yards. Joe, you are a model-building machine, and a damned good one.

Beautiful work dog. The preshaing, weathering and paint details are fantastic. I did more or less the same trick with the light bulb for a 1/48 Voodoo I’m working on. Your light looks fantastic too. [t$t]

Beautiful build Joe, love your weathering technique, very realistic without being over done.[t$t]

Did you see Wings Hobby Shop in Lakewood is gone? The end of an era.[:(]

Thanks guys. Buckeye, yes I was aware Wings closed up. A sad day for Northeast Ohio modelers. He told me he was “retiring”, but I think it was more of an economical issue. It’s hard to compete with the internet I suppose. That store was there since 1947. If you saw my Tamiya P-47 M thread a few months ago, I got that there half off when he was liquidating everything. They were one of the few mortar/brick store that carried a nice selection of True Details resin. Depot Train is still around fortunately, as is the Whistle Stop in Cuyahoga Falls who both fill my paint and Tenax needs, but surely do miss Wings…

Joe

Lawdog,

The Stuka looks fantastic! And you made it seem so easy! I hope you keep posting these WIP threads, I really enjoy following them.

And its nice to finally to find a couple members from Ohio, although, the Buckeye name kind of gives it away!

Thanks for all the kind words. The canopies are Eduard masks. I always seek them out on greenhouse canopies…and for the record, my canopies are never dipped in Future. Maybe a little Novus cleaner on a Q-tip if necessary before installation. Come on, WWII planes did not have sparkling canopies and I don’t believe Windex was of today’s quality in wartime Europe or any theater for that matter. I believe there should be some minor scratches too. They probably wiped the dirt and perhaps blood off and were done with it.

Joe

Well done! Another beauty!

Super wicked job Lawdog…I too enjoy following your inspirational builds. Well done!! Thanks!!

Very nice, Joe- cheers!

The internet is great but to me there’s nothing like going into a store where you can see and get hands on to all the products. Not to mention talking to other modelers. I still have Family Hobby down in Medina but if that goes…[:(]

That turned out great, Joe!

Have you ever done a wip on your bases? They all look fantastic & I’d love to see a step by step how-to on one.

Great work! I’m thinking of getting The Detailer washes, and I wanted to know if you would recommend getting any color other than the black. Do you use the black wash exclusively, no matter what color it’s going over?

Just wanted to comment here on your WIP thread, Joe.

Outstanding work, and you deserve every single kudo you’re getting on this Stuka.

Again, thanks for the WIP thread along side the GB. You know I’m a big fan of your WIP posts, sir.

Thanks all for the kind words. I was considering stopping the WIPs due to lack of interest. I would see thousands of views but only a handful of comments. I figured nobody got any use out of them, but It seems alot of you do appreciate them, so I will continue.

Buckeye: Family Hobby? I’m going to have to take a jaunt down Pearl Road to check that one out. How’s their selection?

CN: I can do a tut on my bases if you would get some use out of it. Perhaps on my next build (likely going to be a Tamiya Mosquito FB).

Derek: I “generally” mix brown and black, depending on the application. RLM 66 usually gets just black because its darker.

Joe

Joe, I know what you mean about WiP threads. But I think that’s the nature of the forum. We seem to have lost a lot of these threads over the past few years in favour of more GB’s. But this does limit the audience to those in the GB’s, so like you I have started doing a lot of my GB builds as WiP threads as well.

I would take the limited comments as a compliment. There’s only so many ways of saying your doing a good job, and unless people have a suggestion or have noticed something you may have missed, it can be hard to say anything.

So keep em coming and lets see if we can widen the range of WiP threads.
