1/48 Gabreski P-47D decals?

Does anyone know if there are a set of decals for Gabreski’s P-47D?
I have not seen any online and thought for sure there must be a set from the highest scoring ace of WWII in the AAC.
I have looked at CAM, Eagle Strike, Aeromaster and a couple of others and didn’t see them.
Did I just miss them? [%-)]

Thanks

Mike

Never mind, I found them. [:I]

Wish I could help you, Mike. I did a quick search at flightdecs.ca and they carry decals from all over the world. They list P-47D sheets from various manufacturers but the descriptions only show unit numbers, not pilot names. Might be worth a shot.

Thanks bstrump.

I found them from Aeromaster.
It is decal sheet 48-660.
The bottom aircraft is Gabreski’s. [tup]

Hmmm…man that looks good! I just might have to break down and do my first ever 1/48 scale model! And a WW2 at that!

Mike, you may want to consider Techmod’s 1/48th decals for Gabreski’s bubbletop. I think they’re superior to the Aeromaster offering, and those are very good.

Mike,
If you want decals for Gabreski’s P-47D-11 (razorback), rather than the D-25, Techmod makes a set (part # 48048). I haven’t used them yet, but the printing looks good (in color and register). Also on the sheet are markings for Mike Gladytch’s Pengie III, but there are only insignia enough for one aircraft.

Thanks Ed but it is too late as I already ordered the Aeromaster ones from Eagle Strike.
I hope they are good enough. [%-)]

Mike

The decals arrived today from Eagle Strike. [:D]

This should be a fun paint scheme to do. [;)]

Mike

Have you painted the camo yet… I would like to see it if ya have.

Jeff,

I am still on the cockpit. [(-D]
The painting will come much later.
As SaltyDog would probably say, “we will see the finished product around Christmas or so.” [:D] [;)]

Alfonso Berlana used the AeroMaster decals for the model in the July FSM cover story.

Gabreski was actually the highest-scoring Army ace in the European theater (28 kills); Richard Bong was the top scorer of all (40 kills).

Yes he did and I really enjoyed that article Lawrence. [tup]

My mistake as I should have said the European theater and not the “AAF” as Bong was the highest in the AAF.
One question though that I have not looked into yet:
Why is Gabreski considered the highest in the European theater when Robert Johnson also had 28 kills? Did Gabreski have 1/2 more for a total of 28.5?

Mike

Actually, Mike, Bob Johnson is only credited with 27 victories.

Hope this helps with the clarification, MIke. Can’t wait to see your build of Gabby’s bird wihen you’re done. Regards, Ed

Better be ready to wait a while there Keyworth [;)]. Mike works at what some people call a slooooow pace… I call it a glacial pace myself, but hey thats me [;)]

Thanks for those links Ed.
I saw a website that said he had 28 so they were either wrong or one was not air to air.

Jeff,

Cut me some slack buddy or I will have to tell Dru Blair you are using his Tomcat photo in your signature without permission. [:p] [;)]
