I did it…went to Michael’s (craft store) armed with 50% off coupon and bought the 1/48 Revell F-15E.[:D] My wife even ENCOURAGED me to get it.[:D] Talk about a steal. Just adding to my pile. Ya never know when a bargain will pop up. [8D]
Carl,
That’s a great kit too.
That is the only kit that Michael’s has that I would buy, at least around here.
Mike
Believe it or not i just picked that kit up at walmart for 9.99 i cant wait to start it need some after market parts first enjoy, i know i will![2c]
I thought I got a deal…Harbor, you the man![bow] How did you swing that one? Not sure if I’m going to us AM on this one or not.
Does anyone know if the Strike Eagles still uses the LATIRN pod or that they switched to LITENING II pods?[?]
They are using the LII pod now, although some may still be using the older LATIRN system. I would check on the unit you are modeling it for and see what they use. Go to the F-15 Strike Eagle forum and ask there as they definitely know as even some Eagle driver’s post there. [;)]

Thanks Mike! I’ll check it out.
I’m building that now and all I know it’s supposed to be a good kit but It’s just been a pain in the ****** so far, Getting there now I posted some picks the other day.
Hey Mike does anyone in the AM offer a LII pod? I wasn’t aware that they were dropping the LANTIRN
I’d have to double check, but I think my Hasegawa weapons set has a Litening II pod in it. It’s still packed away from the move, but I’ll look this evening when I get home form work. I know I keep seeing one at my lhs in resin though. They are out there for sure, it’s just a matter of how easy they are to get hold of.
ROOSTA…what problems were you having?
A68… Here’s what I’ve heard on LITENING II Pods:
-AMRAAM was supposed to have one coming out
-Hasegawa’s 1/48 AV-8B II + has one in it.
Carl
Funny you should mention it, but I saw a film clip that was less than a year old a couple days ago, and it showed a taxiing F-15 which clearly carried a LANTRN pod hanging from, I think, the forward left Sparrow bay, the same place old F-4D’s used to carry their PAVE Spike pods, leaving hard points open for mud-moving ordnance. It was an ANG F-15 I saw in the news clip and that’s probably where the LANTRN pods will all go before finally being given up for good, also like the PAVE Spike. Maybe it’s just the flying of time at my approaching middle age, but it sure seems like the LANTRN system was in development a lot longer than it was in service. Sort of like the B-1, even without the cancellation.
It’s weird isn’t it. I’ve been doing a lot of “doubletakes” because the LANTIRN (targeting pod) and the LITENING Pod look very similar. Now Marine F/A-18Ds are being equipped with LITENING Pods as well. The process of Gov’t funding and research.[:)]
Iv got that same Kit I bought it from michales about 6 months ago and its almost done. Not to many fit problems, Nothing that a little putty couldn’t fix Ill post pics when I finish it.
Fit problems, warped peices parts that don’t line up. even bent, not warped, bent peices. Still im not entirely unhappy with it, but maybe i will be when i start on My hase 109 and Acad SU27UB and compare the quality.
Thanks for the heads up. If pieces are that bad straight out of the box, I let Revell/Monogram know and they send new pieces. Granted these are for pieces that were missing or seriously messed up. If it’s warped and want another one, they’ll charge you.
You know, this really chaffs my ass. Every time I go home on leave, I go to Michaels and they dont have any models. Now, either its a different Michaels or I dont know what, but we go in there, my wife buys a bunch of stuff and I leave with zip. Grrrrrrr…
Mog
Hey Dragonfire and Madd, now that we are dicussing this more thoroughly, maybe I have been mistaken as to what I was looking at as far as the similarities of the LANTIRN and the LII. Maybe I just have them confused. Thanks though on “the gouge” on where to the LII !! I just got that Harrier kit last week, will go check out the LII and try to note the difference.[:D]
A68: They are real similar in shape, size, and color. Like I said, I did a few double takes to figure out the differences. The LANTIRN system is actually two pods, one for Navigation and the other for Targeting. The targeting pod for LANTIRN and the LITENING II pod look VERY similar. If the it’s just a single pod strapped to one of the conformal pylons, then more than likely it’s a LITENING II pod. If there are two pods mounted underneath the intakes, then it’s the LANTIRN system.
Eagle gurus…jump in if I’m mistaken. [:D]
