1/48 F-14A TPS paint scheme for scale

Hello,

I’m looking for some advice from someone here who might has already done an 1/48 scale F-14A (hase) in the TPS paint sceme: according to the instructions and reference info that came with the Fightertown decals for VF-211’s last Tomcat cruise the top should be FS 35237 meduim gray. In the model master paints it looks too blue and not enough gray to my eye.

Has anyone adjusted the paint by adding another color to get the right look? Or other thoughts or reccomendations for making the paint more to scale?

Sorry but this is a repost from the painting section of the forum because there was 0 response there.

Thank you.

35237 is correct for the top color. If it doesn’t look right to you, use a color that “appears” to be more correct? The subject of “scale” colors is one that has been around for years and years with no definite answers.

When dealing with Tomcats its usualy hard to judge that medium gray color, because it it dirty, and faded in most of the photos you see.

I wouldn’t bother trying to lighten the color any, depending on how much weathering you intend to apply.

I suggest you just do some dry brushing with the color mixed with a very light gray after you’ve finished. That wil lighten the base color somewhat.
