1/48 F-14 tomcat (pics)

Beautiful plane!

One of the best I’ve ever seen, congrats Terry!

Steve

RadMax,

You’re right. The decals were still too sharp when compared to the overall faded look. In fact, I DID spray diluted grey paint over most of the decals to tie them up better with the paint job, but that technique doesn’t work well on large decals with black surfaces. You’ll notice that on the forward fuselage, the number “213” looks properly faded, but the big slanted black-and-yellow stripe just below the pilot seat is not faded. The nat signia next to that stripe WAS faded, but it was contrasting too much so I “un-faded” it with Windex. Other areas that were faded properly (but you won’t see in the pics) were the nat signia on the wings, the word “NAVY” on rear fuselage, the BU number, the red “JET INTAKE” triangle etc etc.

There were other basic construction screwups as well: some very fiddly parts in the resin cockpit were broken and lost; the main landing gears were slightly too far back; i neglected to drill the holes for the drop tanks, hence no drop tanks; and of course, no missles yet.

thanks.

Terry

i must say that tomcat looks awesome i will be posting pics of my tamiya f-14 black knights in 32nd scale soon

Terry, great job. The plane is kick a__!!!

Terry I have been going back and forth through the pics of your build and admiring your work. But there was something that was bothering me and it took me a while to figure out what I saw in the pics that was the only thing I could see wrong.

No Prop![:D][swg]

Only kidding Terry…I have a couple of “fast movers” on the shelf. Really, an excellent job.

hahahaha you’re too funny. [:D]

Good job on the Cat. I built a couple of those Hase kits out of the box several years ago before all the resin detail stuff hit the market. Never had and fit problems with the cockpit tho. Yours looks great. I have 6 more Tomcats to build. Think I’ll try the resin pits on a couple of them.[8D]

[:O], OUTSTANDING!!!

Awesome Tomcat !!!
You really did a very good job on that bird…

Cheers,

Jürgen

I am working on the Hasegawa F-14 A sundowners. I will agree that the cockpit area can be quite a chore. You have a wonderful looking plane there, i hope mine turns out half as nice as that one!

Now thats a Top Notch model , absolutely stunning. At the risk of sounding like an echo all the work paid off.I have been hunting for this kit for some time but i have saved your pics as ref first .[:)]
