1/48 Eduard FW 190D-9 Weekend edition

Hello guys, just finished off this build. This was supposed to be a quick easy build that turned out a longer frustrating build as the kit fought me all the way on the build. Fit issues and modifications needed to get some parts to fit. I do not blame the kit totally though, as I probably caused or helped with some of the issues. My other nit pick with it was that there is a lovely decal sheet of stencil data, but the instructions do not show any placement for them, so why put them in the kit Eduard? That said, it is only a cheaper kit. About the only thing I enjoyed of this build was the painting. Anyway, here it is. Thanks for looking

Paints used- Tamiya, Italeri and Vallejo acrylics & Gunze Mr metalizer
Flory Dark Dirt wash and Vallejo polyurethane matte varnish
Brass tube for guns (from wing leading edges out) and EZ line for antennae

Great job on what is a nightmare of a kit. In fact, down right excellent job mate!

Well you managed to produce a cracker out of it despite your struggles. Nice build.

Beautiful camouflage was the wing root around the inboard cannons fussy. it is on the tamiya fw,s nice job

Very nice airbrush skills. As far as stencil data, Eduard would have you go to their website and download the full decal guide

oooh, thats a crackin’ paint job, my man! nicely done.

You’re a right master at camoflague, Grant, this job is just so very nicely done. Thanks for the post and photos, plus the finish details are really helpful. She’s a good one.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. I might have capitalized NIGHTMARE and EXCELLENT. [;)]

This is one of only a couple of kits that beat me and it got tossed.

For a kit that you described as a “Nighmare”, you definitely turned this build around and made it a “They lived happily ever after” build. Great job!

Wow, well as I just ordered the Profipack version of this on sale, I was a little unnerved when I read it fought you all the way, but then I saw the pics, and it gave me hope since I can see what a fantastic job you made of it! I’m not sure if mine will turn out well, but if I struggle, at least I know it’s possible.

Great job!

Thank you guys! The wing roots were not so much trouble but the gun covers were

What a good lookin’ build Grant. As far as the issues go I am very familiar with these kits and will say this about Eduard kits vs. the competition. If you want to build a bird all opened up then these kits are second to none in that department because they lend themselves freely to all panels open. Closed up? That’s a different story as Hasegawa and Tamiya have it goin’ on there. Nathan’s right about Eduard’s website. Additionally in regards to the stencils there are a TON of references on this these birds starting with the Aero Detail books that will tell you not only where to put the stencils but will explain each and every one’s meaning.

I’m a BIG Fw190 fan and am extremely partial to the D line up and really like how you’ve pulled the camoflage off with this beauty of an aircraft. You did 'er proud Grant.[Y]
