1/48 EA-3B Skywarrior

During the 1960’s, two Navy EA-3B’s were converted to carry special monitoring gear to record the telemetry of Soviet ICBM launches. The unique thing about this mission was that it carried Army personnel to run the equipment. I started with Trumpeter’s TA-3B, as it has the door and windows. Don’t use the Trumpeter EA-3B kit. It is simply an A-3B. I scratchbuilt the cheek pods from Apoxie Sculpt and cast the antennas in resin after scratchbuilding one of each kind. For the rest, I used the Steel Beach EA-3B early conversion. I also added SB seats and early wheels. I cobbled the markings together from my spare decals box. Markings are for VQ-1.

Very nice, Darren! Wow!

Wow, that is one beautiful build! I also appreciate the information in regards to army personnel running equipment as such, a very nice touch to such an amazing build! Great presentation.

Very nice whale.

I am not seeing any images or links- what am I missing?

That’s weird. They come up on my end. Try a different browser and see what happens.

Thanks all for the kind words. I’m beginning to get hooked on the Skywarrior. There were so many different variations and “one offs” that make for interesting modeling.

Great stuff! Is there a way to get a close up picture of the hinge area where the wings fold? It appears to have a lot of detail. If so is that the way the kit came or did you add details? Kevin

Very nice build! [Y]

That’s actually what comes in the kit. It’s a mix of plastic and PE. It’s pretty nice looking.

Nice job on an interesting subject. I never knew anything about those.
