1/48 Corsair Query

I’m looking to build a 1/48 Corsair IV as flown in 1945 by FAA 1841 Squadron (I’ve a source for the decals in question). But I’m stumped as to what kit(s) I should look at as a starting point. Any suggestions? Ideally with the clipped wings as all FAA Corsairs had, but I’m willing to clip the wings myself. As far as I’ve been able to determine, the Corsair IV is a FG-1A or FG-1D, although I’ve not been able to determine which exact variant the aircraft I want to build is (Aircraft 115 of 1841sq).

So, the question is what kits are a good match for the Fg-1A and FG-1D?

The Corsair IV was a F4U-1D or FG-1D with clipped wingtips.

I would reccomed the Tamiya 1:48 kit. it’s one of the best kits I’ve ever seen (Built three of them). You will have to clip the wings yourself, though.

Yes, Corsair IV’s are similar to -1D’s. There were some basic diffrences in the radios and ident boxes in the cockpit. There were two small scoops near the cowel also, but are minor to make. The Tamiya kit is the best as said earlier.

Clipping the wings is easy. They had to take off 7" to fit in the hanger below deck. In 1/48th that is just over 1/8" off the tips.

I have a Tamiya kit and will be doing that conversion to it also. MDC makes the full comversion (interior and exterior) and is fairly cheap. I recomend it for the simplicity of it. Have Fun![:D]

Thanks folks.

Now to track down the Tamiya kit…

Minicraft or Academy have a 1/48 British Corsair with the clipped wingtips. I think all their 1/48 corsairs come with optional full or clipped wingtips.
