I’m sure I read that the Airfix Canberra will be out next year. It should be cheaper than that.
I can wait.
But not for too long!

Yup - Airfix announced the Canberra (several versions) at Telford this year. The release date is said to be late 2006 to early 2007. If you think about how long the TSR.2 has been put back now from its original November 2005 release, I imagine it won’t be available til summer 2007. Quite a wait!
It has been a long time coming! Ah, Roadkill, the earliest B-57-As were early Canbarras with the teardrop canopies so you could build one of these kits as a USAF aircraft. However, I agree with you. I would prefer the B-57-B with the tanden seating and the “bubble” canopy also. Now for a B-66 or A-3 Skywarrior in 1/48th scale.
rangerj, Have pics of a tandem seat B-57 that i done in a camouflage color scheme from the Vietnam War. If you would like me to send them via e-mail send me your e-mail address and i will send them along as an attachment. Have all the latest virus protection so no need to worry about infection. Think you would enjoy these shots. Dennis , Fraser, Michigan. Contact me at dsc070744@wowway.com
Somehow I don’t think you can compare an Airfix kit to a Classic Airframes kit.
How do you mean, Swanny? Sorry - no sarcasm, or upset intended, I just don’t have any experience of the CA kits, other than their diminutive Gloster Pioneer in 1/48th scale, and have shied away from Airfix kits for the most part since I came back to the hobby. I’d be genuinely interested to hear the answer. [:D]
My personal opinion is that you have about a 50/50 chance of them being as accurate as each other. Airfix has actualy made some very good kits over the years (yes, and some shockers), whilst CA has made some major bungles eg the Vampire fueslage and intakes. I hope that Airfix will come out with a good 1/48 kit for a reasonable price (for the size of the kit) as I will be unable to afford the price of the CA edition until they start getting put on the table at swap meets in a few years.
CA kits do seem to be hideously expensive, don’t they?
My major problem with the CA Gloster Pioneer was a matter of poor fit, and the lack of attachment pins, which are often a pain in the neck anyway, so I wasn’t particularly bothered at losing those. The poor fit was a pain though, as it was my first kit after a long time away from the hobby, and I wasn’t very comfortable with filler at the time. It’d probably not bother me unduly now though.
As to inaccuracies, I noted a small air scoop under the nose wheel area that just wasn’t on the kit at all, and apparently, the landing gear is just WAY too long. Having seen photos of the real thing, they’re right - it looks like the measurements were made of un-weighed struts.
Anyway - that’s enough OT from me [;)]
