WOW lookin good Lone. Nice work on the metal.
Looks good so far. I have used bare metal on a 1/48, p-51 and p38, the 38 seemed to take forever. I can imagine this is not a fast process either. Keep up the good work i cant wait to see it finished. I have this kit unbuilt as yet but have plans to cover it in foil one day.
Stick with it…looks great.

Whoa! THAT’S a lot of work!! Also a lot of BMF…it’s moving along nicely, isn’t it? Looks good - just take your time.
That metal is incredible! You’re gonna write a step-by-step build article for the magazine right?[:)]
Git R Dun!
Lone, she looks great. Keep posting pics as you go.
Excellent! Can’t wait to see the finished product!
That will be an expensive bird when done! You could always sell 'er for metal scrap! LOL
Looks outstanding…
Andy
Lone, what are you using to smooth out the BMF. I am working on a F-86F-30 Sabre and trying to get the BMF down and not to rip. I am using a tool a friend made me and a Q-Tip. You have any tips ?
Thanks and WOW Great Build so for [tup]
Bud
Beautiful job on the build so far.
Lone - great job so far! I’m also curious about you method of putting on the foil. By the way - I see you’re in Beaufort SC and I’m in Charleston. Where do you shop for your materials, etc? I don’t know of any shops in the Beaufort/Savannah area. Thanks!
Steve
Now THAT’S what I’M talking about! Beautiful! See that’s what I love about progress post. I’ve never seen a bare metal foil job in progress. I see them either done or getting ready to start. You can really learn something everyday in these forums. Thanks lone!

I just never had the “guts” to tackle a foil job. Looks like you are doing a good job! Hang in there!
It’s actually fun. It is time consuming but it goes down real well and looks awesome. I do it whenever I get the chance.
Shes looking great!
thanks for the support guys 'i’ll answer a few of the questions i saw:
Mortar Magnet,i’d never be able to pull off an article on these things,i get tounge tied to easy and start to ramble
Wulf,it’s actually cheaper than the paint,i spent $1.99 on the adhesive and $0.57 on the cheapest tin foil Wal Mart had, yup,it’s really kitchen foil, the shiny is the front, the medium shine is the front turned “grain sideways” and the dull is the back
Dubau: i’m using the round buffing wheels for a dremel, just hold it and use it like a squeege, also a cut up tee shirt, toothpicks and a plastic popsicle stick that is bent a little so as not to scratch
Sanderson,we need to have lunch one day,the only shops nearby are the Hobbytown USA on Sam Rittenberg and the Hobby Lobby in Columbia,i hear there is a shop in Mt. Pleasant but i haven’t been yet
and last but not least, the foiling is hard and takes a long long time but the result is well worth it,i used this link and decided i wanted to do it the same way ,just follow the directions as posted on the site
go to www.aircraftresourcecenter.com and go back to March 31,2006…Larry Shred’s B-29
Beautiful work on a beautiful bird! I think id lose patience too quickly to tackle this project, though.

lone,
That foil finish is incredible and your work gives a new meaning to precision! What adhesive are you using? I want to try this on an upcoming F-89 Scorpion, and I am not sure what adhesive would be best. Also, are you pre-cutting panels of foil or trimming them im place? Absolutely incredible work!
