1/48 "Bats" for a Privateer

I got lucky and found an old conversion kit for Monogram’s B-24 making it into a Privateer. I want to hang 1/48 “bats” under it.

Anybody you know makes 'em? After the Privateer’s done it’s time to hunt some 1/48 scale destroyers.

What do you mean by “bats”? Give me an actual designation and not a nickname and I can tell you if one is available.

It’s pretty clear the Bat was the name used during WWII. Post WWII the Bat received the offical designation of ASM-N-2 but that weapon was carried by Neptunes because they were replacing the Privateers in the post war era. Bats on a PBY-4 for the 1945 era would be correct.

Lone Star makes a resin GB-1 Bat:

I used this newfangled thingy called Google…found it in five minutes…

Strange, I typed in 1/48 bat model bomb and got everything listed in google from B-25s to Batman junk. I had to adjust the search to “1/48 resin model bat” to get the same result.

Thanks so much for your information. I’m glad the snark was for free.

A WIP of the “BAT” and Privateer conversion would be most welcome.

You are welcome! Snarks are always for free. It is just my take on tongue in cheek humor. It always help to try different words and combinations when using google.

That is a long time coming. First I’ve got to cut out the PBY-4 out of it’s vaccuum form. I’m about 1/3rd through that process. Then I’ve got to rip apart a Monogram B-24J (and that kit sort of sucks). Then two top turrets, a rear turret, a front turret, and two side gun blisters have to be built.

How I do “project” kits is I break it up with normal builds. So, right now I’m finishing up a 1/350th HMS Illustrious and then will build the rear fuselage of the PBY-4. Then I’ll build an old Esci 1/48 Canadair Sabre and then work on the turret assemblies in January. In February I’ll do the front fuselage and finish a 1/48 MiANG F-100. In March I start a 1/200 Arizona and will finish the fuselage. In April it’s off to Florida and perhaps some Arizona work. In May or June I might have the PBY-4 and the Arizona done. That does not include the possible “Bat” missile upgrade. The F-100, Illustrious and Arizona have to be done for a small local county show.

I find that my favorite subjects are 1/48 early Cold War jets like the F-86, F-100, and French aircraft. The PBY-4 will test my meager skills to the max.
